Yeap, it's rad.
Probably more of a hardcore record, but the new Harm's Way is definitely a little metal. Also, fucking awesome.

fuck yes!!!! and they have them up in individual form too! I have been waiting for them to put those up for a few months now. I was so disappointed that Heaven and Hell was the earliest album that they had available before this. guess I know what I'll be listening to at work for the next week.

Haha I noticed that afterward too but the comp is an instant playlist. I have everything except Tech Ecstacy & NSD but it's still very convenient.

I read an article earlier about the Flatliners and Voivod that really pissed me off, but then I spent the morning listening to War & Pain so it wasn't so bad. Now I'm listening to Exodus' Bonded By Blood and fuck yeah, thrash.
Metallica is terrible.
EDIT: Except for Kill Em All. Kill Em All rules. So does Battery and the part of Master of Puppets that doesn't suck.

Haha Nick, the only reason I am excited is because I still use last.fm and like having correct tags, ha. but that comp is a very awesome playlist.
and pump the brakes Nich! Kill Em All through ...And Justice for All are all incredibly solid albums. too bad everything after that sucks to varying degrees. although, I will cop to liking some of Death Magnetic...

Ride The Lightning is still one of my favorite metal records ever.

Ride the Lightning is hands down my favorite Metallica album. AJFA is great but god the production is terrible. I actually like Death Magnetic a lot, even though most of the songs could stand to be a minute or two shorter.

Nick, have you heard ...And Justice for Jason? Someone isolated the bass track from Rock Band and cleaned up the production a little bit. The production is still pretty bad compared to the rest, but the bass stands out a bit more.
i'm also gonna jump on the RTL bandwagon for favorite Metallica album. not a single song on that album is bad. Creeping Death still gets me super pumped.

I was mostly just being a troll because I was pretty day drunk yesterday. I haven't given Ride The Lightning the time it probably deserves, but something about them just doesn't do it for me. If I'm going to put on a metal record there's just so much better to choose from. Except Kill Em All.

Picked it up earlier this week. This rules so much. Haven't been this hyped on a death metal album since I was in high school.

I was rocking out to so me Dio Sabbath last night. I've tried and tried but for the life of me I cannot get into Dio Sabbath. It's fine, but I can't make it through an album without feeling like I'd rather be listening to one of the first four (or five, or six) or Dio solo or Rainbow. I dunno. lately I've been upping my metal intake. Been feeling early US power metal (Liege Lord lord, Omen, that first Jag Panzer), doom (the first Solitude Aeturnus, Pentagram, The Obsessed), and lots of black metal of course. Primordial finally clicked with me recently, and there's a couple bands with a similar vibe worth checking out, namely Mael Mordha and Darkest Era (awful name but pretty great music). whats good these days? I haven't kept up with anything in ages.

Tbh, I'm super out of the loop now, but I have really enjoyed Ghost, The Sword and Torche's albums from this year. Also been digging Witch, which has Dino Jr's guitarist, but they haven't put out anything since 08. Mostly stoner/sludgier metal for me lately. I do need to at least check out the new BTBAM and actually give a proper listen to Deafeheaven along with some Deathwish releases, but yeah, I feel so out of the loop with metal compared to previous years. I was rocking out to so me Dio Sabbath last night. I've tried and tried but for the life of me I cannot get into Dio Sabbath. This is also my thoughts on Dio Sabbath. It's not awful, I just can't listen to it.

I read the new BTBAM went full-on prog, that might be more enjoyable to me than their other stuff. I'll have to check it out. Not into Ghost, Torche, or Deafheaven, but I might check out that new Sword album sometime too, I guess they pretty much shelved the "metal" as well?
I've been digging bands whose sole influence is Hellhammer/Celtic Frost: Usurper, Apokalyptic Raids, and Warhammer, specifically. I don't usually go for worship/tribute (lolglassjaw) bands but idk I guess that sound is just so dope, and HH/CF seem to be more influential than archetypal; i.e. you can hear traces of that sound in a lot of bands that came afterwards (mostly just in slow riffs) but there doesn't seem to have ever been a lot of bands that straight up just sound like that.

honestly i'm into deafheaven but i'm also pretty much a hipster that still listens to punk/emo now at this point. considering seeing them tomorrow night though. baroness is also pretty awesome as well is sleep. that's pretty much the only metal i listen to at this point.

I don't know if the new BTBAM is full-prog, but that's definitely the direction they're going in now. I really enjoy the record, though and I haven't been big on their last two releases at all.
Not sure if this is metal or hardcore, but I'm loving the new Cult Leader album. That, Kylesa, Cattle Decap and Black Breath are probably my favorite metal releases from this year.

Haha, well I'm not gonna talk shit about them being hipster black metal or whatever, they just don't do it for me. Did you end up going to that show? I've been meaning to check out the newer Baroness stuff because I like their first album pretty well but I haven't really felt the pull yet, y'know. I Just feel like that first album does it for me, no need for more than that. I don't know if the new BTBAM is full-prog, but that's definitely the direction they're going in now. But then again the last thing they put out that I enjoyed was Alaska, so no surprise really, still a little disappointing though since I have been listening to prog a lot here recently. I might have to check out Cult Leader. I heard Gaza for the first time in years the other day and enjoyed it more than I expected to; even if their vocalist didn't end up being a piece of shit though, his vocals were definitely the most annoying aspect of their sound. Maybe Cult Leader is better in that respect? Today has been a gross/heavy/mystical black metal day. Beherit, Impaled Nazarene, and Mysifier has been the jams. Also have been jamming King Diamond pretty frequently; I'm debating going down to Atlanta to see the Abigail tour but I'm pretty worried that it won't end up being worth it so idk.

I don't really have any friends here that dig what I'm into and I went to Youth Lagoon the week before alone which was super super lonely. Baroness is rad, Yellow & Green is definitely different than Red Album and Blue Record but it's still good. I like what I've heard from Purple so far too.

Sick, I didn't realize Baroness had a new one coming out, perfect time for me to check back in with them. And purple is one of my favorite colors!
I listened to the Behemoth album mentioned earlier on this page, need to spend more time with it but it sounds pretty fucking good! There was a riff that reminded me strongly of "Submission is for the Weak" by Anaal Nathrakh, which I thought was pretty cool.

I don't really remember anything about Gaza because that record didn't leave an impression on me, but Cult Leader's vocals are pretty run of the mill for this style of music. Except for the last song on the album where he does this creepy, deep singing thing. It's a slow, doom-ish song, so it fits. I'm interested to see if they experiment with that any further on the next record because as much as I like this style of music, not many bands stick with me because they all sound pretty similar so I'm glad they threw in some variation on a few tracks.
