Bumpage. Been on a metal kick the past few days. Lots of Saint Vitus, Boris, Slayer and Neurosis. Weird combination but it works.
Also, anyone want to tell me what their favorite metal records of the year are? Feel like I've been slacking when it comes to new music... I did find out about this awesome black metal band called Krallice a few days ago and they are great.

The new axis of perdition is boring. I couldn't listen to the whole thing.
That krallice record is ace.
Here's metal I like from the first six months of the year:
Altar of Plagues Ash Borer Seidr Lake Of Blood Petrychor Oskoreien 40 Watt Sun Woods Of Desolation Negative Plane Light Bearer Beherit (sort of) Caina (not out til August, but it is INCREDIBLE) Burzum Heretoir Primordial Necros Christos Sonne Adam Pantheist Flight Of Sleipnir Krallice Peste Noire - and by extension Soror Dolorosa even though they aren't metal LOSS BATILLUS Wreck And Reference Shining (SWE) Dodsferd Alda Embers In Solitude Corpsessed

Yes, Vestiges are incredible. Check out Lake Of Blood - who they've just toured with - also brilliant.

The only metal I've really listened to this year is the new Deafheaven and Cannabis Corpse. Both were pretty rad, but I don't think Beneath The Grow Lights is as good as Tube of the Resinated.
Does anyone else detect a hint of doom in I Want You (She's So Heavy) by the Beatles? That song's so heavy and groovy as fuck, especially if you're stoned.
Also, my sister asked me if I liked Job For A Cowboy today. It seems like their new fanbase is comprised of 16-year-old Hollister kids and she's one of them.

Dude, my brother and I have totally done a heavy metal cover of I Want You. Its so epic.
We also have a ska version of Puff the Magic Dragon.
I could've sworn JFC was overshadowed by other shitty deathcore bands like Suicide Silence and Asking Alexandria.

I thought JFAC got rid of the pig squeals and shit and play watered down death metal now.

Been on a big metal kick the last couple of days, and started listening to a lot of new bands: Landmine Marathon Bathory Wolves In the Throne Room Ghost Altar of Plagues Om Nachtmystium
Trying to expand my horizons a bit, since I've stuck to just a few metal bands I love for a really long time. Branching out into black metal has been tough, but stuff like WITTR is really good; I think I like the ambient stuff more. Also been listening to a lot of drone-type stuff like Earth, Sunn O))) and Om.

I'm guessing you already know of Neurosis. If not, give one of their albums a listen since you like drone-ish stuff.
Edit: It took me awhile to come around to Anaal Nathrakh but I have no idea why because this stuff is so awesome. And disgusting.

OH. Nick, you should listen to 40 Watt Sun's new album if you haven't yet and are still looking for some awesome doom metal. Cheryl can back that the record is excellent.
I have never gotten the hype for Kylesa before but I've been listening to some of their records that aren't Static Tensions and I have to say that I really like them. Not exactly straying from the path as far as fast, sludgy shit goes but they do a pretty damn good job at it. Same goes for Black Tusk (who are also awesome).

Oh yeah, I meant to get that one and forgot. I'll check it out. For the record, I think 40 Watt Sun is a fucking perfect name for a doom band.
Kylesa are awesome.

Yes, 40 watt sun are perfect in every way. check out warning (P's previous band), but only Watching from A Distance. I interviewed P recently, we got drunk, went to the theatre and he fell asleep. It was brilliant. he is a sweetheart.

Oh, and if you guys are digging Ghost, check out The Devil's Blood, Blood Ceremony. Jex Thoth and In Solitude. Bands that have been doing it longer, and better. Don't get me wrong, I like Ghost, and that record is ridic fun.

I've heard some of Jex's current stuff, where she's doing hymns from the Process Church of The Final Judgement. it was good! the reason Ghost stands out amongst all the retro-styled doom masses to me is their incredible old school pop sensibilities.

listening to a new Glorior Belli track. I guess their new record is southern-inspired black metal. kind of strange, but definitely cool.

Cradle of Filth \m/ One of my all time favorite metal bands. They kick started me into black metal. I still have yet to see them live.

they've lost me at this point, but their first few records are pretty cool, and Midian is really pretty unique.
