Tbh, I'm super out of the loop now, but I have really enjoyed Ghost, The Sword and Torche's albums from this year. Also been digging Witch, which has Dino Jr's guitarist, but they haven't put out anything since 08. Mostly stoner/sludgier metal for me lately.
I do need to at least check out the new BTBAM and actually give a proper listen to Deafeheaven along with some Deathwish releases, but yeah, I feel so out of the loop with metal compared to previous years.
I've tried and tried but for the life of me I cannot get into Dio Sabbath. It's fine, but I can't make it through an album without feeling like I'd rather be listening to one of the first four (or five, or six) or Dio solo or Rainbow. I dunno.
This is also my thoughts on Dio Sabbath. It's not awful, I just can't listen to it.
Posting to say The Mob Rules is just as good as any Dio solo album.

this shit right here tho
edit: this shit right here tho is some of the best death metal I've ever listened to and I wanted to share it with yall fine folks. creepy, moshy, almost doomy, with that sick high pitched 90s snare, very much NYDM but I like it better than anything else I've heard from that scene, including this band's other releases. there was just a limited repress (first press actually I think) from Dark Descent Records but the original CD goes for like $50-70, it would be a dream come true to have it.
