Just watched the Caps highlights... what a pinball game! Was there a single goal in the affair that didn't deflect in? lol, must have been hugely entertaining to watch.

It was. And frustrating because Neuvirth let in a few softies yet still made 34 saves. Thankfully the Sabres were starting Enroth who was equally shaky. One of Poti or Green better get healthy soon because there's no way Wideman's coming back before the playoffs after seeing what happened to his leg. Gross.

What a frustrating game to watch. Every time the Stars had a penalty call go their way, another of seemingly greater violation against them had just been missed. There was a point when they had 7 men on the ice for a period of 5 seconds and there just wasn't a call, even when those near the bench played the puck. Cap it all off with 2 waved off-tying goals in the last 2 minutes of the game and you have what amounts to a heartbreaking loss.

Chris Stewart is sorta blowing my mind of late. His goals are so crafty! His game tier tonight was just incredible: www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2010021197&navid=DL|NHL|homeThis is probably a bit too easy to state given the way the season has gone, but I can't help the feeling that Perry's matured as a player and a person. I think you can pinpoint much of it to when Getzlaf was gone and he had to carry the offensive setup for the front line. He just seems... less antagonizing and more in tune with things. Again, easy statement to claim for the leading goal-scorer, so take it for what you will.

I still can't believe he has 50 goals and might win the Hart. Would have never predicted that at the beginning of the season.
Also, how the refs upheld Hossa's "goal" last night is beyond me.

Also, how the refs upheld Hossa's "goal" last night is beyond me. Ya, that seemed like a sketchy call. Both the kick and the puck not crossing seemed blatantly obvious from where I'm sitting.

Oh man, if the Hawks get eliminated and the Stars get in I will laugh so fucking hard. The Canucks are probably praying the Stars get in because that would be such an easy series for them compared to Chicago. Hoping the Preds can finally win a playoff series too and it's looking like they'll get the Ducks or Wings. Hmm.
Caps have the Rangers in the first round. Can't say I'm 100% confident but no Ryan Callahan and with the way we've been playing lately, I think we can take this series.

Vancouver-Chicago for first round. That's going to be such an awesome, hate-filled series and probably the last thing the Nucks wanted in the first round. I love the WC matchups. Anaheim-Nashville, LA-San Jose, Phoenix-Detroit. East has some great matches too. Habs-Bruins and Sabres-Flyers have a ton of history between each other and I think Pitt-Tampa will be entertaining too. I'll have my predictions and such later because I have a test to study for.

Wooo, playoff time!
I predict that the Montreal-Boston series will end with Chara riding onto the ice on a white stallion and wreaking havoc on the Canadiens with nothing but his stick and his 2 tons of giant.
Fuck the Habs.

I see that being the most lopsided series in the East given what happened the last time they played.

I hate your Preds prediction, Corey! Here's what I'm looking for from the first round: Caps > Rangers - Caps play tight, possibly win it quickly. Sabers > Fliers - Strong goal-tending spurs the most exciting upset of the first round. Bruins > Habs - See two posts above. Lightning > Penguins - Missing starters hurt the Pens, and Lightning pull out a bit of magic to take the series. Canucks > Hawks - Canucks refuse history its chance to repeat. Probably hard fought, but the twins finally pull through. Sharks > Kings - Broken legs = broken dreams. Sharks also overcome their past play-off woes for a round. Coyotes > Red Wings - Thrilling upset that everyone probably wants to see. Collective desire overtakes the legendary franchise. Ducks > Preds - Ducks are my team, and they're playing well. Too much magic this season to not carry them on.

Preds are my West team and I can't pick against them in a series where I think they have a shot, haha.

Well, fuck. If the Ducks play like this, we'll be packing up for home in four. We played a strong, solid first period against a great defensive team, but fell apart the rest of the way. We've had a problem in the past with falling apart when things go wrong, but we've also shown a ton of grit with the number of amazing comeback wins we've posted this season. So, hopefully things work out for the best of us.

I suppose I'll make my predictions.
Rangers > Caps - This'll turn into a battle of the goaltenders and Lundqvist will come out on top Penguins > Lightning - Inexperience on both the team and coaches part will be their downfall here. Sabres > Flyers - I don't want it to happen, but the Flyers have been dreadful without Pronger and I think he's going to come back prematurely. Plus, the Sabres are on fire as of late. Team Chara > The Poutine Avengers - Even if Thomas wasn't phenomenal and the Bruins weren't better defensively I'm still predisposed to cheer against Montreal. Go Leafs.
Ducks > Predators - Anaheim's been one of my favourite teams since I was a kid and I'll always cheer for them. Wings > Coyotes - I don't know how they do it, but they always do. Kings > Sharks - This is based solely on my desire to buy a sweet retro Kings snapback. Canucks > Hawks - They're going to tear the Hawks apart physically and mentally. Luo's going to be a rock and the 'Nucks will finally have their revenge.
I wish finals didn't fall smack in the middle of the first round. There's too much hockey to watch and study at the same time.

So, hopefully things work out for the best of us. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Preds beat Chicago in game one last year, too. They're a good defensive team and I think they can win if they avoid taking stupid penalties, which is what Anaheim was trying to make them do late in the game. There's so many pests there that can draw retaliation penalties so I think it will happen in a later game in the series. The Ducks powerplay is where their success lies. Dan Ellis could be a problem, though. Caps game was stressful but I'm glad we won. New York played about as good as you can defensively and they eventually got fatigued and we took advantage of it. Certainly looked better than game 1 vs. Montreal last year. I wasn't too happy about us not capitalizing on a few scoring chances, though. Game wouldn't have had to go to OT if we scored on those.

In a way, I'm kind of glad it was such a long game, because it showed that we can grind it out if we have to, and we're going to have to against that defense. Lundqvist is one of the best, but he's not invincible. He looked especially vulnerable when we went top-shelf. He stonewalled a few times, but he also got lucky just as much.

Yeah, quite a few early chances went off the goalpost, haha. I think we can take this series because it will take someone on NYR's forward corps to step up for them to win this series. Gaborik had maybe one scoring chance tonight and Dubinsky was invisible. They can steal a couple games on D alone but not the whole series. There's just too much up front for us to think that they'll hold us to 1 regulation goal for every game.

Hell yeah, Yotes. <3 Edit: Hahah such an obnoxious drunk girl thing to say in the midst of a play-off discussion. I was at work during the Caps game today, but I got an in-depth recap, and holy shit.

I agree, that's how we're gonna win this. I'm rooting for the Coyotes in the West, but I think they're pretty much doomed.

Yeah, aside from Bryzgalov the Wings have the advantage in every category there. Even without Zetterberg. :\

My friends and I were tweeting a bunch during that Sharks/Kings game and one of them asked who would score the game winner. Me and two other people said Pavelski and were right. After that, the one that's a Kings fan replied to us saying "I quite literally hate you all right now." I feel like a dick for laughing because I've been in his shoes too many times haha.

That looked like a good game from the highlights. Quick, despite the loss, looked superb. Hopefully that leads to a well fought series.
Miller is such a house! The Flyers controlled that entire outing and got nothing to show for it. Bruins had best step up the D and cut back on turn-overs if they hope to survive this round. There's only so much you can ask from your goalie.
And to continue the theme, the Habs/Bruins game had insanely good goal-tending. I feel like many of these series are gonna come down to which goal-tender performs better than his already godly status.

Bruins need to get more traffic in front of Price or they will fall into the same rut that we did. All of the shots were directed right at his chest and the Habs defense wasn't letting them do anything. Horton, Lucic and Krecji only had 5 shots between each other. The Habs offense really can't do anything unless they force a turnover and they go into a defensive shell whenever they get a one goal lead. When the B's figure that out it could be trouble.

Chicago is getting manhandled.
edit: They score just after I post that and it's some guy even I haven't heard of before. Ben Smith. I don't follow NCAA hockey that closely, apparently.

Good win, but fuck, could the refs call a worse game if they tried? I know its beyond cliche to complain about calls, but I have no idea how they whistled some of the things they did. Hornquist is such a sly little shit! I hope things from this game get called out.
/rant
Anyway... w00t! 1 - 1 goin to Tennessee!
