I think I listened to Christ Illusion maybe 3 times. And then I forgot it existed.

I've listened to half of it a few times, and then I keep having to turn it off for whatever reason. Totally dig the bits I've heard though.

Well, the Black Cobra album didn't turn out to be as great as I hoped. They've got a killer sound going but there aren't enough memorable moments on the album. Everything kind of just blends into one.

Yeah, that band sucks. Like you said, their sound is cool, but their musical talent doesn't exist. Just awful.

Also, I'm kind of bummed about the 3rd Boris 7-inch. It's ok, but kinda boring. The 2nd one was killer and the 1st one was good.

Check out Drudkh if you haven't already. Their new album is really, really cool. They're vaguely similar to the Emperor-style BM but less symphonic and more difficult to imitate.

I must have heard Drudkh.

The Blue Record is hands down my favorite metal album of the year. It's just perfect.

I don't know what song it is, but one of the last tracks on the album is truly jaw-dropping--easily their best song yet. It's fucking amazing.
Also, I'd encourage you guys to check out the new Ahab album if you haven't yet. It's a highly elaborated sound for them, for better or worse, but I like it quite a lot.

for those on last.fm: vote this image up. Also, I heard the new Baroness finally last night. Is it just me, or did anyone get the vibe that they were listening to a lot of musicals during the writing of the album?

Damn, I'm sure this is old news, but I just read a new Burzum album is on the way. I wonder if it'll actually be black metal this time.

I have Two Hunters and I like it, but I don't get the big deal about that band, still. I'm hoping it clicks eventually, but I'm still all about Deathspell, Leviathan and, just recently, Drudkh.

I'm back into Black Metal. I'm currently listening to Portal's SWARTH album, which is an inescapable sonic holocaust. sort of Death Metal's take on Deathspell Omega. I've also been listening to Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta II. I bought MV1 and will be listening to that after SWARTH.
also, I heard a song off the new Mt. Eerie album, which is heavily inspired by Xasthur. unbelievably cool.

I downloaded the Portal a few days ago. I'm pretty pumped to hear it after years of somehow not hearing the band.

Are we allowed to post links to blogs on here?
There's this one metal blog I found that's fucking incredible. It's tons of incredibly obscure stuff over a range of decades and some of it rules major ass.

I'm sure no one will care. There's a whole section for downloads, but it would be more relevant here. I'm interested anyways.

ehbeyehateblog.blogspot.com/They've also got popular stuff (Sunn O))) stuff on the first page). They tend to specialize in the grimmer end of metal, but they've also got a lot of super cheesy heavy/power/thrash stuff. I'm definitely more into the former.

Same. I can't even do "heavy" metal, which seems to be the generic term for power metal-lite.
Iron Maiden is about the most I can handle in that genre, and I never listen to those guys on my own time.

Dear Memoria Vetusta I: Fathers Of The Icy Ages,
while you're not as good as what Blut Aus Nord would do later, you are really, really great. wonderful, surreal viking black metal. god show, chaps.
