Attempting to interview them currently but my deadline is tomorrow and their PR guy hasn't gotten back to me.
Isn't it awesome how much their music changed and stayed great at the same time?

The best thing is that it always sounds like a logical change in sound, too. It's never really a huge change from the previous album.
I'd almost feel safe to say they're my favorite band ever now.

you're reading reviews. Fuck that shit. Sorry dude. The major flaw with reviews, to me, is that everyone has a different opinion of everything. Much like that statement I just made. I just don't dig it when reviewers think they're somehow in a place to actually critique someone else's work, as though they could somehow have done it better, rather than to just give an overview or summary of it. Obviously, it'd be one thing if it were actually a talented fellow musician reviewing an album, but in most cases, not at all.

Ugh, I really hate the "well why don't YOU make a better album?" argument.

So do I. A lot.

Understandable. I just still stand by the statement that unless you're skilled in the field, you shouldn't be criticizing it. But, really, why don't you make a better album?

Really, though? I don't have to be a maestro to know that Brokencyde suck, for example.

Yeah, the whole "At least they're putting something out there that they really worked on" argument falls apart when you hit bands that obviously suck and clearly don't give a shit anyway.

I retract that argument about the musicians critiquing musicians because it's kind of defunct with what we're actually talking about. I think I was stuck on this stupid idea that people were actually basing their opinions on reviews, which is obviously not what's going on here. It's just being discouraged because the general opinion of some of the reviewers is a negative one.
Basically, all I was really trying to get at was, reviews are obviously supposed to be for entertainment (some rather insightful, some rather witty, etc), and they should just be treated as such. But when it comes to forming an opinion about an album or whathaveyou, you'll do that for yourself. So, don't be discouraged, just love what you love. Who gives a shit about what any of these people say?
Sorry about the confusion.

I think reviews are good for getting a baseline to set your expectations to. I generally don't read a lot of music reviews (except for the ones on SPB, and that's usually after I've already heard an album and want to see what other people think), but I do read reviews of movies to get a general idea of whether or not I'll like something. They rarely sway my decision either way.

I agree with you in some sense Ben, about people who base their entire opinion on reviews and don't want to like something if it got a bad review, but then with people like Corey, I really trust/respect his reviews and would actually take them into account if I was on the fence about buying an album.

Fair enough. I just figure, if I'm on the fence, I'll try to find some of it online, since most bands big or small put most of their albums online these days, even just to stream.
So, all being said and done, I was too harsh to say fuck reading reviews.

Welcome to Bangkok is the best opener ever. When they played Lollapalooza they opened with it and went right into Luca. So awesome.

After all of the talk about Brand New on Twitter, I'm on my second listen of TDAG today. Seriously, even though I maybe fanboy at times, I truly hope that they are remembered as one of the best bands of this generation. They honestly deserve it, they keep delivering albums with some of the best lyrics and songwriting out there.

I love Brand New a lot. I hadn't actually listened to them much since Daisy came out but I went back this week and listened through each album again. I love each and every one.

I really wish they'd come somewhere close enough for me to see them. It sucks living an hour and a half from the first big city. But lately I've been listening to TDAG a ton. I think tonight I'll put Deja Entendu and Your Favorite Weapon onto one mix and play it over and over tomorrow.

I recently rediscovered The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me and holy shit. I forgot how amazing this record was! Can't stop listening!!!! Hopefully I'll come back to Daisy and think it's amazing..
SO EXCITED TO SEE THEM THIS SATURDAY! I've been looking at recent set lists and they've all been extremely similar. I'm lovin the fact that they've been so heavily laden with TDAGARIM. <333

You constantly make it impossible to make conversation. Keep us comatose but audible, and I like it the farther I get out.
