I'd take Brady, Rodgers and maybe Manning before him in terms of QBs. Vick's one of my keepers in the league I'm in. Not sure if there's enough interest to start a fantasy league here.

He looked like shit yesterday against the Steelers, but it's preseason, yada yada yada. The whole team looked bad, though. Watching Asante Samuel get burned by Roethlisberger's pump fake was hilarious.

I don't see any problem with what he said and that quote is taken way out of context.
"Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year. He started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships.
"I think now he's grown up and gotten better every year and that's what I'm trying to do. I kind of hope these next seven years of my quarterback days are my best."
He's basically saying that he's like Brady in the sense that he's gotten better since his Super Bowl season, which is true...until last year when he threw 20 picks. Eli was great in 2009-10, though.
Also, I'm watching the Vikings-Seahawks game from the other night and I have to say that I'm not impressed with Christian Ponder at all. He looks a little scared in the pocket and his throws are so inaccurate and off-balance. I didn't get to see McNabb in this offense yet, though so I can't comment on him.

Is that what Eli said? All I heard was the reactions. If what you quoted is right, then the media wheel is fucking ridiculous (as if that's news). As for his 2010 performance, at least 10 of those picks had nothing to do with his passing. I watching at least half of the Giants' games, and his season was more flukey than early Steve Young.

Heh, it's true. I remember when they played the Panthers last season and two of the INT's he threw went off his receiver's hands. I've defended him a lot in recent years because I think he gets more flak than he deserves.

Manning Eliiiiiii.
Speaking of which I got cheap tickets for Saturday's Giants/Jets game. $25 bucks for both total. I'm excited. I know it's preseason but I can't afford regular season tickets so this will have to do.

Hey, someone had to compete with Reggie Bush!

I got to see the Cowboys' second pre-season game (against the Chargers), and they looked pretty good for the most part. Felix Jones was a fucking beast, and the O-line seemed improved. Romo was solid, except for a really stupid interception, but he made up for it with a scrambling, laser-like TD throw to Witten. The secondary is still shaky, but once Newman and Jenkins are healed up I think they'll be better. The front line looked awesome as usual; Ware was really on it.
I'm still not sure how much of an impact Rob Ryan is going to have. It seemed like most of the defensive problems we had last year had to do with execution, not schemes/plays.

Doing my big money 16 team draft now. We do an IDP league and draft a 30 man roster to start... it gets soooooo tiresome. We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, the specialty stuff, and a bunch of defensive players. Right now, my draft looks like:
1. Andre Johnson (WR) 2. Darren McFadden (RB) 3. Josh Freeman (QB) 4. Brandon Lloyd (WR) 5. Dallas Clark (TE) 6. BenJarvis Green-Ellis (RB)
Wish I had taken Tim Hightower over Dallas Clark... I thought he was under the radar enough to drop to my 6th pick (85th overall). Oh well.

Did you guys hear Arian Foster's tweets about fantasy football? He said that people are "sick" for caring more about how his injury affects their fantasy team than his actual heath and safety. Can't say I disagree with him, and that kind of attitude is what turns me off about FF. I know not everyone is like that, but when you start obsessing over stats, it sucks the fun out of it, at least for me. I mean, watching my favorite team is stressful enough, I don't need to get pissed off that Frank Gore only had 5 carries or something like that.
Though, I can definitely see how, say, a Browns fan would enjoy it because it means they can pay attention to something that's not their team, haha.

Dude, I was involved in a website where you deal players like stocks with fantasy-based earning systems.
Anyhow, people went fucking nuts when players got injured. Like when Tiger got injured a couple years back, everyone flooded the system and got pissed when the stock was frozen. And in a disgusting show of humanity, people short sold Cory Lidle and Josh Hancock before they could be taken off. Super disgusting.
But yeah, it really turned me off from fantasy sports and is a big reason why I don't really update my DF fantasy baseball account much. That and the one dude is like a guaranteed winner for the season. Ha.

I keep forgetting to update my roster in that league. I actually forget who is on my team, haha.
Fantasy sports are fun if you don't obsess over it. A lot of people bet money on it so I think that's why they get carried away. I'm pretty stoked to do fantasy hockey this season. Not too sure if I'll do football, though but my friends usually set up a league and I join it every year and they'd be disappointed if I didn't.

I don't think its as much a condition of being a fantasy football fan as much as it is of being a fan in general. I'm sure there are just as many Texans fans who would get pissy by Foster being side-lined as there are fantasy owners. Its in the nature of the spectator, and something that needs to be checked from going beyond reasonable bounds. In Foster's situation, I read he was upset because people were posting things along the lines of "I hope he's okay! He's the star on my team!" I understand being peeved through that sort of objectification. Most people know him as a performer, though; I don't think that excuses the short-coming entirely, but it explains it rather well.

Foster is just sensitive. He did the same thing at UT. Everyone is so mean to me, womp womp womp.

Also on the fantasy note, I got really annoyed when people would bitch to me about how DeAngelo Williams, Steve Smith and Jonathan Stewart are "killing their fantasy teams." I have to watch this fucking horrible team weekly and root for them. How they contribute to your shitty fantasy team is the least of my worries. Had to deal with the same thing with the Caps and Backstrom this year.

Isn't that the appeal? At least with Fantasy Football you have something engaging to watch - otherwise you're just a Panthers/Texans/Niners/Broncos fan.
During down Texans years, it's the only reason I still show up to games. It gets so brutal down the stretch.
Well, that and community sadness. It's soothing to be around a group of other people who share your misery. The feeling that you're just never going to be good.

Well, I didn't say anything against playing fantasy football, just that I get tired of people bitching to me about how players from my team are screwing them over. Not my fault they were stupid enough to draft them.
I'm also a selfish asshole, so that should help answer your question.

Eh, fair game. The most important rule of fantasy football is to never talk about it outside of the group of participants. It just makes no sense out of context, and could not be less interesting to people who are not in your league.

I can't believe Fred Taylor has so many rushing yards in so few full seasons. Yikes. Good luck in retirement, duder.

fantasy talk can go in here? promise i won't crowd it all in the season, but it's something to talk about. just did my draft and i made out pretty damn well.
QB Tony Romo RB Adrian Peterson WR Calvin Johnson TE Antonio Gates W/R Mike Wallace W/R Miles Austin Q/W/T/R (yeah, i don't know why the fuck this happened) Marques Colston K Matt Bryant DEF Detroit DEF player Ray Lewis BN Josh Freeman BN Stevie Johnson BN Tim Hightower BN Ryan Mathews BN Sam Bradford BN Lance Moore BN Dallas DEF
it's a weird fucking format, for sure, but it's PPR, so I drafted a shitton of receivers and RBs that do decent receiving, too.
also, i'm sort of excited about the lack of buzz about the Cowboys this year, maybe without the pressure they can make a good run at the top or at least a wildcard. i keep seeing people pick the Giants for a wildcard spot, but even with my biased view, i think they're not gonna make it solely because of injuries. i wish the season would just start already.

Looks like a solid team but I'm a little iffy on your receivers. This is going to be Mike Wallace's first year as Pitt's number 1 receiver and I think more teams are going to double-team him.

I think its a solid starting cast. Is it a 10 team league? I like your back-ups a lot, too; Freeman is starting in my league, and Hightower looks posed to possibly break-out in Washington. I hate Ryan Mathews (as a runner), but everyone else stays high on him.

Ryan Mathews is from here. If any of you know about pro players from Bakersfield, expect him to bust this year. Which dubious honor will it be: lowest yds/carry, most fumbles, most games without a touchdown?

He wasn't that good last year either, haha. Everyone expected him to replace LT just like that but it wasn't the case at all. He should be good this year as a RB2 option in fantasy with Sproles not taking carries away from him now. Him and Mike Tolbert should be a good tandem. Always liked running backs like Tolbert who just plow over defenders even if it's hell on their bodies.

ESPN 1070 in Indianapolis is reporting that Peyton Manning is going to need a second neck surgery and is going to be out indefinitely...
Ooof.
