Seriously, because that first line is a fucking juggernaut, there just isn't any depth. A killer line and a great goaltender does not a team make.

Heh, the Ducks defense shouldn't be this bad. They traded to get Visnovsky, drafted Cam Fowler and got Andy Sutton so they did something to beef up the defensive corps. All three have been playing pretty bad, though. They also have Jake Gardiner and Luca Sbisa waiting in the wings and they should be good when they're ready. I was hoping Anaheim would be more fun to watch this year with some of the young talent they have on that team.

That's what I was hoping for, too. But somethings going on. I didn't think it could have been worse than last year, but it looks like it is.

Eh, it's only 3-4 games into the year for most teams so I don't think there's any need to panic now. If they keep playing like that at the end of November then it could be time to panic, though.
Simon Gagne back in Philly tonight. Should be a good game. I'm high on the Lightning this year.

I know. And the Ducks usually do this in the beginning of the season, anyway. I'm just worried it's going to stay like this because there's such an overhaul of the team this year. I mean, with Niedermayer retiring (and giving Ryan Getzlaf the "C" instead of Teemu Selanne, I don't know why the fuck they did that. I know Selanne is always talking about it being his last year, but if they made him captain I guarantee he'll stay for another 3 years minimum. And they need him.) but anyway, losing Niedermayer is a big hit. He really held that team together. And them trading Mike Brown was a really dumb fucking idea.

I figured they would make Selanne captain but Getzlaf makes sense if this is Teemu's last season. I don't know what leadership skills Getzlaf but giving him the C isn't a terrible move, imo. He's been the best player for the Ducks for the last few years. Things might pick up for them when Toni Lydman and Joffrey Lupul get healthy. I feel like Lupul's always hurt.

I think Getzlaf just doesn't quite have it in him to be captain.I think he's missing something, but I can't really put my finger on it. And with Selanne, he's been saying it's his last season for the last three. He was going to retire right after they won the cup, but he just keeps coming back. And if he keeps doing that, they should have made him captain so he'll quit jumping back and forth for a few years on what he wants to do. But, I do hope I'm wrong about Getzlaf.

Finally caught the replay of the Ducks game. If that's what it takes to win, life's gonna be rough. Two goals scored from 5-on-3 power plays, two others off transitions from near-goals by the opposition. We got outplayed, and some of those calls sending us into 5-on-3 were weak. Still, a win's a win. Maybe it'll stir something and get a fire started. The young defense has a lot of growing to do, and fast. And the whole team just looks sloppy, like no one except Koivu was practicing passing in the off-season. Thrashers will be a real test as to whether we're a good team in need of execution, or a bad team that's badly bad. I have hope.

What an awful loss. We had that game controlled and got screwed over on a missed high stick. Even then, we had good chances.
Good game. Best I've seen us play, yet. Too bad it only garnered a single point.

Marian Gaborik and Pascal Leclaire are already hurt. It's officially hockey season again.

Sami Salo was out before the season even started. That's the official start to the Canucks season.

Haha
Caps-Preds tonight. Usually one of my most anticipated games since they're my two teams.

Since I'm in DE, I'm getting the Pens-Flyers game on CSN. However, that means I have to put up with Philly announcers. Fuck.

I don't mind the Flyers crew aside from Steve Coates, he's an idiot. He's nothing compared to Craig Laughlin or Chico Reesh though.

Crosby made a goal, and whoever was talking goes on and on about how the goalie ALMOST had it, and was SOOOOO close. Oh shut up.
And anytime the Flyers get near the goal, they start having an orgasm in the microphone.

It just always seems worse on the Philly station. I never really grew up having local announcers with hockey, so I was always used to Fox announcers as a kid.
You just get what they give you when you live in Alaska, haha.

If you want bad homers look up Bruins videos with Jack Edwards.
Somehow the Preds haven't scored yet which is surprising considering our defensive corps. No Green or Poti tonight means we've got an extra porous D. Preds aren't letting anything our offense to anything yet.

Edwards, Ahlers, Loubardias and Emrick are the only announcers I can't stand. Making a drinking game out of Doc was fun though.

Kid was bad mouthing him and being a dick. Him and his buddy got ejected from the arena. This game fucking suck by the way. Don't know what the fuck is wrong with Lou tonight, he might as well not be in the net. I kind of appreciate that V is making him play through the pain though, tough it out.

I'm expecting Campbell to throw the book at Rypien for that since he's been doling out suspensions lately. Assaulting fans is a pretty big no-no in any sport.

Lots of good games the past couple of days. David Perron had a couple of sick goals tonight against the Hawks. Check them out if you can. I think he's going to be a 20-30 goal scorer this year if he keeps it up. He's got so much talent. I think three players had hat tricks tonight. I know Steven Stamkos had one. I can't wait to play the Lightning this season.

I'm about two or three games from not watching the Sabres anymore this season. This has been painful to watch.
