Here's Looking At You, Kid is among maybe 7 songs to make me cry the first time I heard them. This reminds me that I had a totally embarrassing* experience I had when I first got '59 Sound, where I spontaneously burst into tears listening to 'The Backseat'. I don't know what it is about the ferris wheel line, and 'If you never let me go, I will never let you down' business. Like, projectile tearage. What is that about? And now it's like, Pavlovian, haha. I nearly did it when they played it last night, too. It's now my conditioned response. *my commute is, like, three hours long, and I'm mostly on backroads with old farmers, cows, free range chickens, and the occasional llama, so I mean, I was embarassed but it's not like there were other cars around to witness it, haha.

Love this band.
Last time I saw them, Brian came over to me and asked me to pick a song because I was wearing a shirt from The Riot Before.

Fuck the .org. The general readership of that place is fucking awful. There are some cool people who read/post there, but you've got to admit, most of the people who contribute to discussions there are idiot douchebags. Really dumb idiot douchebags.

Yeah, that's sort of true. I read their news updates on a daily basis but I don't read any of the comments or post on there, haha.

I don't post on the actual .org, but for some reason I do post on orgsummit, and almost all the people I've talked to over there were really nice and awesome people. I'm actually hanging out with one of the dudes from there before the Gaslight show in Philly.
But yeah, this thread is about how much Gaslight owns even though Brian Fallon has a really weird almost Southern-sounding speaking voice. Anyone else notice that? Dude, you're from Jersey, what are you doing.

They remind me a lot of Bruce Springsteen, and being that I'm not a fan of Bruce Springsteen, I can't say that this band does too much for me.
I'm trying hard to like them though, honest.

I love this band so much. I can't think of a single song that I skip over on any of the albums. I can't wait to see them in Philly on Monday.

I love these guys... I honestly don't know which release I like best. I have Sink, 59 Sound & Senor on my iPod. Since my iPod is usually on shuffle mode, I rarely listen to the songs in order, so I'm not even sure which songs are on which release. For songs, I think "Even Cowgirls..." is my favorite. "Red Sky Night" and "Film Noir" are also high on the list. But really, my "favorite" pretty much changes depending on what song is currently playing, haha.
And I thought they were great live. Thoroughly enjoyed that show.

And the one you went to, Kristin? Toronto show was awesome! Broadway Calls are the nicest dudes ever, and they played a great set to a small but enthusiastic bunch that showed early in the evening. Jesse Malin is totally worth the price of admission, if he happens to be on any of the dates coming up. Hilarious in ways I can't even describe (not all intentional), and the guitarist is a treat, hahahaha. Good performers, definitely. MBD were fan-fucking-tastic. So much love for them. The cellist looks so pissed off all the time, which is hilarious, because she's adorable, and double-fisting cans of Molson Canadian is precious. And the singer might be my new favourite person ever in all the world. I want to bottle his speaking voice and take it with me wherever I go, hahahahaha. And Gaslight were just amazing, as expected. They are just so damn stoked to be playing anywhere, the enthusiasm translated 100 percent. The crowd sucked by that point, though, which was a bit unfortunate, haha. Like, it's no fault of the band (in fact it's too their credit) that they can attract such a wide range of veteran show goers, hipsters, and normal people, but this also means cutey-boy singer attracts the drunk-roly-polys-in-sequined-titty-top contingent, who can't do anything but squeal, spill their drinks on people, and wipe their overly pancaked faces on the shoulders of others. Also, the fourteen year-olds yelling about weed and 'it's just the way of the road, man, the way of the road', got pretty tiresome. Once I just accepted it was not worth my energy to keep elbowing the moist, doughy forms of the spotty, cooler-drunk hordes out of my way and retreated a bit to the sidelines, it was generally pretty great. I'da called you Woody, Joe was probably the highlight for me, followed by I coulda been a contender and The Backseat. Good set, for sure (though they'd be hard pressed to have a bad one). Also, I'm pretty sure Graham and I met NicholasisRad at the barricade, haha. Good times, and really, for a four-band show, everything went really smoothly.

went last night at the HOB!
broadway calls were great! but i want to see them on their own in a small venue, they've been here like two other times i think but just opening for other bands in huge venues. i don't know why but i was surprised at how good they sounded live!
before the last song of jesse malin's set, i heard a familiar sound and i turned to my boyfriend and he said "is that the intro to back with a bong?" and then jesse announced that his friend from murphy's law was going to come out and help him with the last song. lo and behold, jimmy gestapo came out and they did a cover of reagan youth's degenerated. i was moshing so hard (in my head).
murder by death was good, the singer did a solo cover of bang bang (my baby shot me down), which was weird cause i never thought i'd see two bands do the same cover in the same week... dead man's bones did it last wednesday.
gaslight anthem were great, as always. while the venue was better in anaheim, i think the show was better in boston. i wanted to hear more off of sink or swim (1930 and we're getting a divorce pleaseee), but ah well. happy to hear we came to dance, angry johnny, i'da called you woody, blue jeans & white t shirts, and say i won't (recognize).
High Lonesome Casanova, Baby! Old White Lincoln Even Cowgirls Get the Blues The '59 Sound We Came to Dance Film Noir Miles Davis and the Cool The Patient Ferris Wheel Stand By Me I'da Called You Woody, Joe Angry Johnny And The Radio Great Expectations Here's Looking At You, Kid The Backseat
Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts Drive Say I Won't (Recognize)
can't wait for the new album!

I'm pretty sure they did '1930' in TO; bummer that they dropped it the night you saw them, K. I also can't wait for a new album, haha. I'm a greedy guts, and they're just too damn good.

What did the Dillinger Four guy say? Was it P? Because I was at the show too: Some guy kept shouting "WHY ARE GASLIGHT ANTHEM POPULAR?" and Pady was like, "Fuck if I know! I don't remember the last time I was thin enough to fit into a bluejean jacket. And who the fuck makes a career out of loving Bruce Springsteen? EVERYONE loves Bruce Springsteen! You're a loser if you don't! That's like thinking you're special for worshiping the Rolling Stones."

Oh my God. Tonight was amazing. The crowd was pretty great. The show was nowhere near sold out, so it was nice and intimate, even though it was in a big-ish venue. It was nice being front and centre without having to get to the show 8 hours early.
Some highlights:
-Broadway Calls covered Boxcar -Dave from the Loved Ones essentially passing around his bottle of whiskey. -Adam from Murder by Death saying something about motorboating a pumpkin pie that was waiting backstage. -Gaslight FUCKING PLAYED WE'RE GETTING A DIVORCE. I almost died. It was amazing. I wasn't expecting that at all. They also covered Refugee, which was also pretty great. Everything about their set was awesome.

They need to stop covering Tom Petty riiiight now. Was Refugee good? The video I saw of American Girl made me want to rip my eyes out.

It was so damn funny. When we interviewed Broadway Calls we were talking about Eddie and Josh goes "Are you guys DF?"And then there are like two other kids singing along to their set, and one of them happens to be from the board. Haha.
