Haha, "Tolkien esk!"
Bebop rules. Bleach is enjoyable insane at times, it's basically Dragon Ball Z with swords. That does include the incredibly slow plot progression.

I wish I could get into Anime. Sort of. Maybe.
I don't know why but I never bothered with most anime. I'd watch this or that and like it well enough, but I never made that leap.

Kind of. But he hates Twilight. I like this show so far.
Not to say I didn't totally rip off his format or anything. But he's done the microblogging thing with stuff before.

I'm sure Nick or Neal would give this speech better, but really, there's so many series of differing genres and movies and comics, and like a lot of other media most of it's utter shit, but I could almost guarantee you could find something you'd like.

yeah, even a mean old battleship like me, that's had time to get to hate most anime, still finds things that rule.

I have to be in the mood. Usually I hate it. I liked Evangelion though. I think, mostly, I don't care for the art style. I know it differs between artists and blah blah blah, but there are common threads and to say otherwise is usually just nitpicking, or otherwise a sign that people are watching more closely than I have much interest in doing. Even looking at Evangelion, I don't care for the art style, there were just a few good bits (especially in the End of Evangelion). Pretty much I liked when it departed from average anime fare and got "weird", and spent most of the "normal" episodes tapping my foot, waiting for parts like that.

see, that to me is just being kind of narrow-minded.

Maybe so, but I'm not going to be magically attached to disproportionate drawings that have, at best, a tenuous connection to how people look, simply because it's "narrow minded" not to be. It's not just anime I feel this way about, of course, it's most cartoons I'm expected to take seriously. Pretty much it means that something that's animated has to be exceptionally good for me to like it, whereas the expectation of quality isn't quite so high in a live-action show.
Pretty much, I'm not going to put an effort out to look for good shows when it involves wading through a million "this character is supposed to be 25 but looks, sounds (and often acts) 12" (or, maybe worse, "this character is 25 and treated like a mother/father figure because all the main characters are teenagers")piles of crap. I spend infinitely more of my free time role playing than I do watching shows or movies, so it's not as though I'm desperately searching for something to do and I'm completely crossing anime off the list because I don't like the style. I do like a few of them, but I wouldn't refer to anime as one of my interests. Pretty much, if a good one falls into my lap, I'll watch and enjoy it, but I'm not going out of my way to find good ones. And I think a lot of what people call "good" is annoying or cheesy (like Elfen Leid and Death Note).

that's what cartoons are!!! they're not supposed to really look like people. the entire concept is that it's supposed to be a shell that a person can dive into.
check out Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics for a great explanation of this. he calls it the Masking Effect.

see, that to me is just being kind of narrow-minded. how? just because you saw something and don't care for it doesn't mean you're close minded. of course not all anime looks the same, but where do you draw the line? me personally, my friends have showed me quite a few shows, and i didn't like any of them. do i like anime? no. it's not being narrow minded; i just don't like it.
