MICF will always be my favorite, but Goddamnit is close. FHTI has most of my favorite Dan songs, though.

I have to say, I've been disappointed by everything of theirs I've heard since Good Mourning came out. And Good Mourning was even a bit hit or miss for me. I love their earlier stuff, though.
I've never found them disappointing live. I think my favorite memory of them live is when they played the Riv quite a few years ago and they played 97. I swear, the entire crowd was singing along and Matt just stood back with a huge grin on his face.

Bringing this thread back since the other one is for the new album. I stumbled across these today, dunno if anyone has heard them, but this is a demo of Good Mourning in its entirety, which includes a fast/electric version of Blue In The Face. There are also five songs from From Here To Infirmary, it's pretty sweet! rapidshare.com/files/97982238/Alkaline_Trio_Demos.zip.html

Double post/serious post: My friend sent me This Addiction today, and since I never actually listened to Agony & Irony from beginning to end I thought I should in order to judge the new album fairly. It's not terrible, but it's SO mediocre. And of course right after the album finished Goodbye Forever came on and I started feeling depressed. My entire adolescence WAS this band and this is just so sad.

It's not terrible, but it's SO mediocre. Very true for them. I mean, I really like certain songs and I like it overall, but good god how is this the same band that wrote their first handful of records?

I rd a snippet of an article where Matt claimed that this was going back to their roots, just more polished. I didn't think this sounded like their early stuff.

Alkaline Trio is totally on my good side now because they have worked Two Lips, Two Lungs, And One Tongue by Nomeansno into their set.

It probably would sound more like their earlier stuff if it wasn't so polished, maybe. That's what I hate most about this record and their latest records. Not that well-produced records usually bother me, but I don't know. I don't know enough about production to really phrase this the way I'd like and not sound like a fool.

No, I know what you mean, Tawny. That was what turned me off more than any other factor from A&I, and it REALLY affects TA as well.

I usually really like Alkaline Trio. I watched the video for This Addiction yesterday, and I really just don't like the song all that much. It's... boring.

I'm actually really digging Dan's solo project. This Addiction struck me as "meh" at first, but it grew on me upon more listens. It's probably my least favorite album by them, but I still like it. "Fine" is probably my favorite track. I'm pretty big on Dan's songs.

Alk3 is on a livechat right now and Matt seems to be fucked out of his mind.
Also, according to Matt, he and the rest of the band is good friends with AFI.

Finally got the new album and it's all a bit meh.
It's better than A&I, but that's not saying much. It's missing it's hook and I am annoyed there aren't any choruses that you can join in with on the first listen

Sooo.. I really enjoy the trumpet solo in Lead Poisoning, and I really dislike Dine, Dine My Darling. Yeah so disregard that comment about Dine, Dine My Darling. I'm hooked on it. The album has absolutely grown on me. I really like every track except for Draculina. The bonus tracks are excellent, the dvd is a lot of fun. The NoMeansNo cover is CRAZY! I can't find Matt or Dan's voice anywhere (maybe Derek is singing? haha). Really wishing I bought the super deluxe package when it was up for pre-order.

Such a good band. Dan is a much better part of it than Matt. They are kind of hit or miss live. Dan is a really sweaty guy. the S/T comp may be the best thing they ever did - Goodbye Forever, I lied My Face Off, My Friend Peter....
Even though Matt's solo acoustic stuff from the early 2000's was fannnntastic. In Your Wake is maybe the best song I've ever heard out of the guy.
It certainly reminds me of being younger, if nothing else. I can remember when this band was on Asian Man. That's enough to make anyone feel old.

That NoMeansNo cover is really good, if a little by-the-book.
This Addiction might be the first Trio record where I like Matt's songs more than Dan's overall.

Way late, oh lord. I'm seeing them Saturday because I'm doing merch for the Cursive. I've never seen ALK3 but caught the Heavens side project and enjoyed myself. Pretty excited to see Cursive again.
