DetachmentMovie about high school through the teacher's perspective, centering around a substitute who steps in for three weeks (played by Adrien Brody, who never fails to deliver). It looks thoughtful and interesting; hope it hits hard. Just watched that per your recommendation, it looks really, really good.

Hold up! AB was in Angels in the Outfield!? I'll have to bust out my VHS and verify this. Dude, that movie was the kickstart of so many careers: JGL Brody Matthew McConaghey (not going to spellcheck that) Dermot Mulrooney (not spellchecking that either) Neal McDonough Fuckin' Adrien Brody, dude. "Hemmerling for Mitchell? Go back to Cincinatti!"

I know I keep posting about The Avengers but damn:
The Hulk saving Iron Man brought a tear to my eye. That trailer gives me the impression that Whedon balanced out the action with the team's story. Hopefully it's true.

I won't let myself see The Avengers until I see Captain America. (WHY HAVEN'T I ALREADY? ?) Thinking about Marvel movies, I wonder if they'll ever start doing crossovers. Also also, I definitely will demand Avenger sequels rotating the team members. See how many they can work through before it becomes stale. Also also also, boo on the lack of Ant-Man.

I keep seeing the trailer for Detatchment at the theater I frequent. I dunno, it kinda rubs me the wrong way. "Between you and me, you look like you have more problems than me." Maybe it's because my mother, a teacher, is a sucker for dramatic teacher movies and I've seen way too many of them. One I do want to see is The Hunter. Willem Dafoe is in it. He's on the hunt for an extant Tasmanian Tiger. Shit goes down. Willem Dafoe. Then there's this: My first reaction was, is this movie a new release? This wasn't some mid 90s thing that I missed? Upon looking into it further it's apparently NOT primarily a dumb action shark attack flick. It's more of a drama/look-how-majestic-sharks-are thing. Bummer. I just read through the rest of this thread and I think my few posts make me look like an asshole.

To anyone in LA or anyone who's going to be in LA on August 7th: I urge you to go see Asghar Farhadi's A Separation, 8:30pm at the Laemmle Beverly Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills. It's closing out the Noor Iranian Film Festival, which runs from August 3-7th at the Beverly Music Hall. Maybe go see some other films too! It's a fantastic film, won best foreign language picture at the Oscars, had a limited release in the US early this year. I saw it at the Laemmle Royal Theatre in January or February. I'd love to see it on the big screen again but I'm going to be on a houseboat on Lake Shasta. You all ought to enjoy it.

I would've if that wasn't my birthday, but thanks for the heads up. I still need to see that movie.
Here's the trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's newest movie, The Master. It's about L. Ron Hubbard. Jonny Greenwood is doing the music again.
e: Updated with the non-teaser trailer.

I'm either seeing The Master this Friday or the Wednesday after. Can't wait. I would've if that wasn't my birthday, but thanks for the heads up. I still need to see that movie. Here's yr second chance: Wed/Thu 26/27 September at the New Beverly Cinema. And speaking of the New Bev and PT Anderson, all of his feature films up through There Will Be Blood are going to be screened at the New Beverly Cinema from the 5th to the 10th of October. I also wanna see Wreck-It Ralph.
