Not trying to be a Debbie here, but Jesus Christ I hate Wes Anderson movies. I'm stoked for Red Tails next weekend. I'm an enormous WWII nerd, especially when it comes to the air combat, and this looks spectacular. I've been waiting forever for someone to do a big budget movie about this stuff. Even better that's it's about the Tuskegee Airmen. Wait, you hate Wes Anderson, but you think Red Tails looks good? I remember seeing that trailer in theaters and laughing out loud because it looks so shitty.

Yeah, I guess you're right. With a cast that includes Ne-Yo, Method Man and Cuba Gooding Jr., and George Lucas as producer, I don't see how it could possibly be terrible.

I'm relatively certain that a George Lucas produced movie about the Tuskegee Airmen has the possibility to go either totally awesome or so wrong it will burn when I urinate for months.
I'm leaning towards the latter.

Yeah, I'm kinda like "It's so great to see Cuba Gooding Jr back in good movies...maybe?"
I have a feeling the movie is basically going to not suck or be awesome and will be one of those movies I have no intention of ever seeing like Flight of the Phoenix or Jumper or that movie with Justin Timberlake where time is currency.

I forgot about that JT movie. Now I kind of want to see that in 2012.
And Flight of the Phoenix was real, real bad.

The fact that not a single studio wanted to pick up the movie, and George Lucas had to fund the entire thing with his own money should be telling enough of the quality.

The fact that not a single studio wanted to pick up the movie, and George Lucas had to fund the entire thing with his own money should be telling enough of the quality. And I'm sure it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the fact that the main cast is primarily made up of black men. Because Hollywood is in no way, shape, or form racist and there is never any hesitance when it comes to funding serious films with leads who aren't white. Right? NEVER HAPPENS EVER.

I wanted that last movie to be good. The writer/director also wrote The Truman Show AND Gattaca! Never did see it. It just has that feeling of a movie that will ruin itself along the way. :/

And Flight of the Phoenix was real, real bad. The funny thing is I own it, but that's only because it came in a 2-pack with Big Trouble in Little China for $5. Why were they packaged together? The world may never know.

When I worked for Albertson's, our customer service dept rented videos. People used to rent the FUCK out of that movie. I got nothing against Dennis Quaid, but god damn it looked shitty.
Big Trouble in Little China, on the other hand, should be in the Library of Congress.
And while we're on the subject of George Lucas and upcoming movies, anyone see him talk about not making any new Star Wars movies because everyone jumps his shit every time he releases a remake of the original movies? Hahahaha. Fuck you, Lucas. And the prospect of no more redos makes me way more excited than new, shitty Star Wars movies anyhow.

Way to be a condescending prick. If you want to watch awfully rendered CGI planes fly around and listen to a script that is sure to be hilariously bad, be my guest. George Lucas could sure use the money.

God, I hope Red Tails is good. And commercially successful of course, but mostly good. I didn't know anything about it until the other day when I saw a picture of all the surviving pilots on a red carpet for it and now I'm dying for it to be brilliant.

I feel like I'd enjoy seeing a new Star Wars series only if Lucas was only tangentially involved.

A really fun cast (Bubbles from The Wire is in it!) and the action scenes are really well-done. Sure, it's predictable and some of the dialog is clunky, but it's charming in an old-school war movie sort of way.

Two new ones to talk about, opposite ends of some imaginary scale: Project XTeen party flic that looks like the music video for 1979, but on steroids. I still like an occasional movie from this genre, and this one looks wild. DetachmentMovie about high school through the teacher's perspective, centering around a substitute who steps in for three weeks (played by Adrien Brody, who never fails to deliver). It looks thoughtful and interesting; hope it hits hard.
