What a wild fucking year. Both leagues had a Triple Crown pitcher. Tons of MVP candidates. Good year for rookies. Good year for vets. Horrible year for hitting, in general.
Last night was fucking ridiculous. It was also the one night I'm glad I had MLB.tv. I was watching all 4 games simultaneously. Can't believe the Braves choked so badly. They're the only team to ever lose a lead of more than 8 games in September. That's some A-rod choking right there.

I'm looking forward to watching some of the playoffs, but having your team lose 99 games kinda dulls your interest in watching baseball for a little bit.

I feel like the Braves had a worse collapse but more attention is going to be placed on the Red Sox because of how good that team was on paper. Fuck them, though. Glad their douchebag fanbase can enjoy another post-season from the sidelines. Even better that we were the team to knock them out.
Go D-Backs.
I just remembered that David Hernandez became a decent reliever after we traded him to Arizona.....for Mark Reynolds. Fuck.

On the bright side, Reynolds didn't strike out 200 times!

He was actually great at the plate. His abysmal fielding is what I hated about him, haha.

Sup with Hardy hitting 30 HRs?!
Man, if Epstein fires Francona over this, Epstein will be the next to be fired. On one hand, he says he doesn't blame Francona, but on the other he says they need to "discuss some things." You can't fire a manager with a lifetime win% of .575. Ever.

I thought Francona was leaving on his own terms? Fucked up that they would fire him for not making the playoffs because the team was riddled with injuries and didn't have that great of a pitching staff.

Interesting.
MLB playoffs in like 15 minutes! Gotta love how they start two days after the season.

Oh shit! Tony Reagns resigned. Even though Arte Moreno said "It was time for a change." Sounds more like "given the dignity to resign before being fired." Ha.
Drew Belzer's comment was "Reagins' legacy: Vernon Wells and Scott Kazmir." C'mon, man. Even for an ESPN writer that's unfair. Reagins wasn't the best GM but don't forget that Torii has been unstoppable. Don't forget that he pulled in Haren for Saunders. Don't forget that he lost dead weight in Juan Rivera and Napoli (who were since traded). Napoli having a good year is one of those 20/20 hindsight things. He was hitting like .240 with 15-20 HRs a year with no clutch when they got rid of him. Don't forget about the crazy good homegrown talent. Don't forget about keeping Weaver with the club. Don't forget about getting Scioscia extended. Don't forget about all the times the Angels made the playoffs.
So yeah, that's kinda shallow and unfair, joke or not.
And still the signing that no one talks about that I feel was just as bad as any this year: Russell Branyan. And let's be honest here. At least he wasn't Stoneman. Sheesh.

I thought the Wells trade was abysmal but you're right about the other things. People always have the "what have you done for me lately" mentality in sports and while I understand that, it's kind of annoying. He did well with the Weaver contract, though.
Rays going yard on the Rangers here!

I don't think that trade was 1/10 as horrible as the Matthews signing by Stoneman. Still one of the worst signings of all time.
Like I said, Napoli and Rivera didn't fit in with the ball club anymore. They needed a guy who could field and hit hard. Rivera was a shitty fielder with OK power at like $6mil. Napoli was getting eclipsed by younger catchers and was striking out a lot. Jays ended up eating a lot of the contract. And they freed up a spot and $10-11mil to get him anyway. I mean, yeah it was bad, but it kinda made sense given the market. Wish they coulda snagged Granderson or Beltre but that's the way things go. Wish they coulda snagged Crawford back then, too, that one has gone in the history books as a flop, hasn't it?
Oh well, they've got a ridiculously good pool of young talent. Their young pen has potential. Walden was pretty solid all year. Is Rodney out yet? Trumbo is a good candidate for ROTY. Bourjous was unstoppable, kind of a Jacoby Ellsbury type. Still obvious with Trout why he's the top minor league prospect. Amarista could have potential. Conger has the potential to take over every day from Mathis or at least continue to share C duties. You know, a lot of Angels fans are talking shit about the team, but with what they got they did pretty fucking good.

I didn't expect much from the Angles this season but they were better than I thought. I've always liked Peter Bourjos and he's going to be scary now that he's hitting well. I think they still have Haren under contract for a little bit, too. How was Mike Trout this year? I heard he was called up sometime this summer but I didn't follow it that much.
The fact that the Red Sox gave Crawford that contract when they had a lead-off hitter in Ellsbury was just idiotic.

Haha Cashman said he put it to the press that the Yanks were offering Crawford a contract so that the Red Sox would overbid. Hahahahaha. Best move by the Yankees ever.
I believe Haren is under contract for one more year. After that, it sounds like he wants to stay in So Cal. I hope so. I've always liked Haren.
Trout did pretty good. You can't expect too much out of a guy who went from AA to MLB. He didn't hit for contact very good, but he's getting a better eye and he pulled off some great stops in the outfield. Overall, he looks to be no Brandon Wood.

the Red Sox have to be kicking themselves for that Crawford contract, as well as trading away three of their best prospects for Gonzalez.
i know it's playoffs, but looking ahead to next year, I think the Royals are gonna start being a legitimate team. their outfield was insane during the second half of the year. i dunno if Francoeur can manage to stay at that level, but Alex Gordon and Cabrera were great and probably can continue to be great. they had a ridiculous amount of OF assists. they're really deep in their farm system as well, which should mean they'll have some depth for the future. Hosmer could very well be the ROTY, he looked fantastic the entire year. the only problem they really have is the pitching. I really wish they weren't in the AL Central though haha.

The Royals are getting close to being a respectable franchise. It was a matter of time before a lot of their younger players panned out but I'm pretty impressed with how they got the most out of leftovers from other teams (Francoeur, Melky, Chen, etc.). Melky shocked me the most out of all of those. Soria kind of imploded though.
I actually don't think the A-Gon trade was bad because they got a TON of value from him and he fills a position of need for them, especially after Ortiz leaves. JD Drew, Crawford and Lackey were Theo's biggest screw-ups.

Lackey was just plain awful. Fitting that he's getting paid the same as Burnett.

Speaking of Brewers, told all y'all Roenicke would be NL manager of the year. He's a shoo-in.

He basically said "FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH AHHH GOTTA GO!" and then ran away.
I'm cool with whoever wins too but I'd prefer the Tigers since I'd like to see Verlander get a ring.

So, looks like Theo's going to the Cubs. Haha.
This postseason is crazy. I want the Brewers to win it all, but to be honest, I don't really care that much. I generally like all the teams playing right now.

I feel bad for not keeping up with this post-season. Hockey's pretty much consumed all of my spare time.
