The truth is you could slit my throat and with my one last gasping breath I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt.

never saw the appeal of this band. Thursday are better, and have been since day one.

Thursday are coming from a completely different place musically and lyrically. The only similarities are pretty superficial, so I don't really see the point of comparing the two.
I don't know that this will save the band from their downward spiral into generic alternative rock, but it'll certainly make songs from the first album sound better live.

Where You Want To Be was good and had it's moments, but Louder Now was boring as shit. It was so forgettable I had to google the name of it.

Early Brand New would fit a comparison wayyy better. But holy shit, I am excited. TAYF is easily my favorite album by them, although WYWTB is pretty damn good. Also, the bassist Shaun is rejoining, too!

Yeah, I don't know where that Thursday comparison came from.

Holy shit, this is awesome news. TAYF is one of my favorite records. I think I'll listen to it now to celebrate the occassion.
EDIT: Wait...where on their site does it say John rejoined the band?

Thursday and TBS both got signed to Victory around the same time. I associate them because Thursday were great and TBS...weren't.
I don't listen to Brand New, so I can't speak to that comparison.

EDIT: Wait...where on their site does it say John rejoined the band? The picture that pops up is the band in the exact same positions as an old promo photo. And you can tell John's there in the photo pretty easily, even with the bars over the eyes.

never heard anything by them that sounded even remotely interesting, I dunno... This is how I feel about Thursday, oddly enough. But, this is some interesting news. I am interested to see if they actually, you know, stop sucking, since they started really sucking once John left. And I'm still bothered by the fact that the Straylight Run demos were so fucking good, but every officially released songs were pretty much garbage.

Aw, I love Straylight Run. At least the first album. I didn't hear anything after that except Big Shot (Hands in the Sky).

I guess it's not so much that everything else is garbage, it just makes me super resentful because I feel like they had so much potential that's so clear in the demos, but nothing lives up to that, to me.

never heard anything by them that sounded even remotely interesting, I dunno... Get a copy of The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me. I don't want to hear your opinion on it until you've heard the whole thing. You know that thread you made on the OMB about albums that are so good they transcend any notion of genre? That's one of them. I would understand if you didn't like the first two, though.

It might help if you read the lyrics, too. Jesse Lacey is a fucking amazing writer.

you're asking too much of me here, hahaha! I definitely appreciate that this is more tied into classic alternative, which is something that a lot of bands from this period really aren't.
my only complaint here is how much like Cursive's The Ugly Organ this is sounding. I love that record so much, but I dunno that it's particularly the sort of disc I'd like to hear by another band.

Holy shit, you've finally given me a band that I can legitimately compare Brand New to, haha. They sound much more akin to Cursive than any of the bands they're usually lumped with. I don't know why I couldn't figure that out, haha.
