They're actually playing it here, which is surprising. Hopefully my friends will go with me.

They're kicking people out here. My friend is 16 and went (somehow bought a ticket, I don't know) but a cop came in and pulled everyone underage out. Apparently you have to have an adult 21 or over stay with you. I don't know why this is different from any other R-rated movie.

Apparently this 21+ accompanying anyone under 18 is beginning to happen everywhere, not just this movie. WTF

well duh. if you aren't with someone 21+ you would just go around slicing up people and calling them cunts. but this prevents that from happening

Fortunately, I am over 21 and thus it will be totally acceptable for me to go see this movie alone and then start calling people cunts and chopping them up. Yay!

A+ movie, holy shit. When Kick Ass and Big Daddy were getting their asses beaten, I was cringing so much. Very grisly, but super funny movie.

So, I just finished reading the comic, and it's actually kind of shitty. The violence and profanity are so much more gratuitous, and the whole thing just feels kind of trashy. I'm glad the movie got rid of most of the cynicism and focused on just being fun.

There were a few moments of weak acting, but that was me being overtly critical. Nic Cage didn't come close to ruining this movie, but I felt his acting dragged it a bit; I've never much shared the seeming dislike here for his performances, but this time I noticed it in places. Other than that... fan-fucking-tastic. Funny and entertaining all the way through, and the music was perfect. The big reveal on that weapon in the end... lol. Totally lived up to the character's faces of delight.
Might as well have called the movie "Hit-Girl." She stole the entire film.
About the ending... sequel?

A question for those who have seen it: Did you have a problem with the whole "Dave pretending to be gay" thing? I didn't even really think about it the first time around, because I was so wrapped up in the rest of the movie, but I read an article on EW about it and thought "Hmm, yeah, that is kind of problematic." They did tone that aspect down quite a bit from the comic ("faggot" and variations thereof get thrown around a lot), and at least they didn't have him act like a walking stereotype.

ugh. that definitely bothered me. i mean, he is found (supposedly) naked and beaten to hell, and yet the big rumor is that Dave is gay. and his going along with it...jesus. that part bummed me out, but i was too excited about the rest of the movie to care.

In the comic, the rumor is he's a gay prostitute, so it makes a little more sense in that case, but it's still kind of crappy.

They did tone that aspect down quite a bit from the comic ("faggot" and variations thereof get thrown around a lot), and at least they didn't have him act like a walking stereotype. I found the implication to be because he was found naked and beaten, like he was "looking for love in all the wrong places". It's more likely that he'd get beaten by a man than a woman; that's just how it is. Of course, that could have been done by a pimp like figure just as much as a male prostitute or some other such figure. It didn't bother me then... it doesn't quite bother me now. Rumors pop up for numerous reasons, and the story needed a device to set up the scenario between him and his soon-to-be-girlfriend.

I finally saw this last night after convincing my friend Iron Man 2 can wait and not to worry about Nicholas Cage. So fucking awesome and Hit Girl is by far one of my favorite characters ever. I need to convince more friends to see it with me.

Totally forgot about this until right now. Yeah, it bothered the hell out of me. I mean he wasn't a walking stereotype for the entire movie, but when it initially happened, yeah. It was gross. He immediately slipped into lispy, stereotypical turbofag. Bothered me quite a bit.

I think there were a lot of positives too, though. I was very refreshing to have an awesome, bad-ass female hero who wasn't some hyper-sexualized male fantasy stuffed into a skimpy leather outfit. There was no patronizing "oh, you're just a girl, so you can't be awesome" shit in it, and Hit-Girl was never the damsel in distress. You can't really call her a role model, per se, but it's such an improvement over other female superheroes.

I finally got around to checking out a DVD rip of this. Holy christ. I'm so glad they went for maximum ridiculousness or it never would have worked.
I can see why people were pissed off or whatever, but god damn, there needs to be more Hit Girl in our lives and less whatever everyone else cares about these days.
I don't think the casting in this movie could have been better. I honestly can't imagine anyone else in any of these roles. Especially Chloe Moretz. She completely and totally stole the show, and probably would have still stolen it without the high body count and the over the top crudeness.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy it nearly as much as I did, or laugh as hard as I did, but it pretty much fucking delivered on every level that I could want it to. Good stuff.

It comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow! I can't wait! I'm actually quite interested in watching the bonus features and behind-the-scenes stuff. I have to wonder if the studio even wants this to make money, though, because I haven't seen a single commercial for the DVD.
Also, the first issue of the sequel comic comes out in a week. I might actually pick it up; I want to see where the story goes from here.

I'd like to watch this again. I really enjoyed it as a whole, but the pretending to be gay thing did bother me and the ... erm ... spoiler thing in the box spoilery thing kind of killed a lot of the ending for me. It felt naff and jarring.
The pretending to be gay storyline mostly bothered me not so much that he was a stereotype (I don't remember him going lispy and such) but that whatshername allowed him to see and touch her naked because she was under the impression that he wouldn't find it sexual. And he's definitely enjoying it. Bugs me. She shouldn't have assumed he was gay, he shouldn't have gone alone with it.
But other than that, I remember digging most of it. The nightvision battle was fucking awesome.

Just read an interview with Mark Millar where he laid out the plot for the sequel. Red Mist assembles a team of supervillaibs over the internet and hires a Russian assassin to kill Hit Girl, who comes out of retirement to help Kick-Ass. It all culminates in a massive battle royale in Time Square. Sounds fucking awesome to me! Bold prediction: they defeat Red Mist, but Hit Girl dies and passes the torch to Kick-Ass.
