I just finished watching it. I have no words yet.

As usual with Von Trier, I appreciated the craft of the film -- and parts of it were definitely brilliant -- but as a whole it didn't quite work. The fact that it started off technically perfect with a beautiful slow-motion sequence then went into a contemporary, almost cinema verite jump-cut style to represent the shaky psychological state of the protagonists was brilliant, but it wasn't able to hold my empathy or attention for the whole movie.
A lot has been made of how offensive it is, but honestly its biggest flaw was being too slow and boring. This coming from a guy who thinks Barry Lyndon and Ran were well-paced....

I find it very tricky to try and navigate my feelings about this work in terms of standard film conventions. It's one of those pieces of art that's designed to hurt and disturb you emotionally, not make you empathic or engaged in a narrative sense. Which, of course, goes against the idea of filming any kind of story, but there we are. I'd just as soon try to dissect the pacing and narrative style of Jacob's Ladder, Pi, The Woman in the Dunes, or The Fountain.

That's completely irrelevant. All film is visceral. It still has to tell an engaging story to be effective, even if it's a story of emotions rather than plot.
The Fountain, Pi, and Jacob's Ladder all work (haven't seen The Woman of the Dunes) Antichrist isn't quite there, though it's close.

What beef? I told you what I thought of the movie.
Should I just lie and say I thought it ruled?

Nope, but I'm trying to discuss the film and you seem to have no interest in that, other than saying an opinion contrary to what you believe is irrelevant. You'll notice I'm not sucking the movie's gigglestick either, just trying to approach it in a manner other than, "It was paced bad," because I don't think the film was meant to be taken like that. Sure, you can address any piece of film that way, but there is a sliding scale as to how relevant that is to the work in question.
Aaaaanyway...

Ok, how about "In my opinion that's irrelevant to the point I was making in the previous post." I wasn't trying to brush you off, just discuss the movie in question and address your point.

I really want to see this. it was just released in a theatre around here, but I'll probably wait to rent it because I don't really have an interest in seeing this with either of my parents and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to see it anyways.

I really want to see this film but I know my local theatre won't bring it in (owners tend to have a religious bias as to what comes in) and the other closest theatre is about 40 miles away.

If you have OnDemand in your home, it's available to rent.
