I've seen it a million times. I don't get all the fuss over the ending. The message from the end of was developed in a million different, more subtle ways throughout the film, it really didn't need a big on-the-nose reveal. Its only purpose was as a plot Macguffin, thematically it was unnecessary. To focus on Rosebud is to totally miss the point of the movie.
Still a great film.

I'm talking about innocent childhood values becoming ruined by greed, and how monetary possessions never quite satisfy us, no matter how many we have. That's the reading I took out of it, anyway. There are lots of interpretations of the film. Also, that's just one of many theme in this flick. Wells and Toland packed a huge amount of information into every frame, most of it very subtle. But I always felt Kane burning his Declaration of Principles made the Rosebud point plenty clear.

Wait, there are people who actually dislike Citizen Kane?
I get being indignant about being told it is the best movie ever made so often, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who took the time to watch it and thought it was total shit. Even as something to just watch and not put much thought into, I've always thought it moved along really well on the surface.

I'm trying so hard to find the clip of Smithers singing to Mr. Burns like in Citizen Kane. I can't find it!
