BEST. CALL. EVER. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjOv0rJYyF8Really. Just listen to that. It's amazing. A 95TH MINUTE HEADER TIED THE GAME UP LAST NIGHT, LOCKING FIRST PLACE IN CONCACAF FOR THE US AND GIVING HONDURAS THEIR FIRST CUP PLACE IN 28 YEARS. That there is a clip of Honduran announcers having a field day and nearly crying announcing the goal. You don't even need to speak spanish, it's just all around beautiful. But really, I know there are some soccer (or football) fans on here. Talk.

The US played a horrible game against Costa Rica. Congrats on the equalizer, though.
I just fear for the US when they start playing European and African teams... seriously. You guys have been playing teams like Jamaica and Mexico for the past couple of months... Enjoy Germany, France and Ghana, for starters. They'll def be the underdogs in the Cup.
In other news, closer to home, PORTUGAL came back from a terrible startoff in the World Cup qualifiers to get into the playoffs. The draws start Monday, and I hope to GOD we don't have to play France. I don't want a repeat of the '06 World Cup Semifinals.

Situation considered, I didn't mind that game at all. We had chances all day, and just blew them. That's coming off a short week and finding out that your best, young player nearly died in a car accident. Meh. We came back down a man, too. I'm fairly pleased with the performance.
We've showed we can keep up with good teams, too. I think this team tends to just play down to the competition, which is very, very bad. But they can stick it out with Germany, France and Ghana. I'm not saying we're as good as them, but we'll compete. We've got a friendly in Denmark next month that I'm really looking forward to.

I hope to GOD we don't have to play France. I don't want a repeat of the '06 World Cup Semifinals. This is pretty much impossible. UEFA, in a giant "fuck you" to fair play, is seeding the playoffs. That being said, Domenech and Queiroz are both such duff managers it'd be fitting to see both teams miss the finals. ------ If America doesn't have Onyewu and Demerit back and fully functioning they're fucked in South Africa. They showed in the Confederations Cup they can hang around as long as they can hold their shape at the back. And, obviously, this is something they can't do without both of those guys. As evidenced by the past few qualifying games.

Gooch looked great in Honduras, but he just played flat as hell in the Costa game. He's hopefully only out until Feb, so we should have him back there for SA. A back line with Gooch, Demerit, Spector and Boca isn't that bad. I'm hoping Dempsey makes it back soon, and we finally start using Holden and Torres in the midfield. Slide Deuce up to Davies place and for the love of god, NOT PLAY CASEY AGAIN. We have a pretty solid team, when we get our heads out of our asses.

We all know Germany is gonna kick everyone's ass in the World Cup. Admit defeat now. Bow down to my people. Just look at our matches throughout qualifying.
I really hope Portugal and Russia make it.

I think we're going to give everyone a good run in 2010, we definitely need to lift our game if our draw with Netherlands last week was anything to go by, but we've got a much younger and fitter team than we had 3 years ago when we were one bullshit call in extra-time away from knocking out Italy...

I watched almost every game of the last World Cup. God, I hated playing soccer. I don't know why I enjoy watching the sports I so hated playing.

Australia got Germany and Ghana. We are fucked.
England's group could only be easier if you replaced USA with New Zealand or North Korea.

I'm starting to like our group more and more. I like our chances a good deal. I'm pretty pissed Mexico lands in the lofty host group, though. We've got a friendly against The Netherlands coming up, and we're scheduling another one. I'm so fucking excited for this, I can't believe it.

Despite being from and living in the USA all my life I always root for Italy in the World Cup.
In terms of club soccer I like Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Arsenal

Australia got Germany and Ghana. We are fucked. I'm really bummed about Germany's group. I wanted to see some really close games, not easy wins.

I doubt there will be any easy wins in that group at all. Everyone was all "GROUP OF DEATH!" right up until the moment Portugal landed with Brazil and Ivory Coast.
Shit is going to get dirty.

Ghana is beastly. Sometimes I have nightmares about Michael Essien.
Really that entire midfield is. The strength and power they can throw onto the middle of the park is enough to make up for whatever they're lacking in technical ability.
At least you've got Scott McDonald!
Plus, I don't see Serbia mentioned anywhere in the Group D discussion. I think they can roll up Australia as well. That really is a tough fucking group.

Oh, and as someone who has been following US Soccer since as long as I can remember, you can't make any predictions on how they'll do. They could show up and beat England (!!!) or lose all three matches and Landon Donovan walks around looking like he is crying the entire tournament.
