Amazing!
A Pair of Brown Eyes, Sally MacLennane, etc.
The real question here, is are they still worth seeing? Has anyone seen them recently? Will it be awesome or depressing?
They're coming here soon, and I think I can get in for free but I don't want to leave all sad and unhappy. Give me the news.

I'll be seeing them FOR FREE AT VOODOO FEST COURTESY OF JAMES FEARNLEY THE ACCORDIONIST FOR THE BAND!
I got to interview him two months ago and it was the most fun I have had interviewing anyone so far. And yeah, they are incredible. I've always preferred If I Should Fall From Grace With God.

I had a journeyman that saw them a few years ago and he said it was a fucking blast.
I need to see them.

The only fun I think there is to be had during a Pogues gig these days is placing bets on whether or not Shane will make it to the end of each song he's supposed to sing. You'd get pretty low odds on If I Should Fall From Grace With God these days...
Couple of great albums made by this band and a couple of really, REALLY dodgy ones later on.

Awww, how did I miss this thread before it dropped off page one? Such a great band. Way more good albums than bad. No earthly idea what could be expected live at this stage in the game, however.
Rum, Sodomy and the Lash is probably my favourite album, though Peace and Love and If I should Fall from Grace with God come close seconds.
Favourite tracks, though? Probably "White City", "Dirty Old Town", "Rainy Night in SoHo", "Misty Morning, Albert Bridge"...too many to name, really. Oh! And definitely "The Body of an American"--for eons I only had it on a little ep/cassingle, and I was pretty stoked when it finally made it onto a singles collection that could easily and cheaply be found when I started replacing the cassettes with cds.

I saw them a couple of years ago and they were pretty good. Shane kept fucking off stage after every song though.

I totally read that as 'falling off stage', and thought "You know, that's probably not too far off." :/

I did that as well, Kris...
Must disagree with you, though - Peace and Love has its moments - Young Ned of the Hill is one of the finest versions of a contemporary Irish-trad song that I've heard - but it doesn't come anywhere near If I Should Fall From Grace With God; I think my major problem with it is that for every Young Ned of the Hill, there's something ludicrously poor, like Blue Heaven.
That said, IISFFG is, by some distance, my favourite Pogues album.

That said, IISFFG is, by some distance, my favourite Pogues album. It IS hard to match, track by track, the strengths of If I Should Fall from Grace with God..., true enough. I think the strongest tracks on Peace and Love match them for quality, but there's not the quantity of them. "Gridlock", "White City", "Young Ned...", "Tombstone" and "Night Train to Lorca" are really solid tracks. It is really, really hard to counter the peerless awful of Blue Heaven, however, hahaha. I'm not sure I can think of a Pogues song I like less (though Summer in Siam might be it). I choose not to judge the rest of the album by its painfully brassy presence.

I found RS&TL on LP for $7 yesterday. I hadn't heard the band before, but I was pretty blown away.
