I'm a cheap-skate when it comes to movie shopping, but it does allow me to give chances to films I probably wouldn't otherwise pick up. I just nabbed In Bruges, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, and The Tracey Frames each for $3. Good investment? Bad investment?
So, I guess to make this thread useful, talk about movies you had no or low expectations for that were surprisingly good, or awesome movies you've picked up for next to nothing.

In Bruges is so good. Not what I expected at all, but I still loved it.

I remember wanting to see In Bruges but not enough to actually go see it so I forgot. Then months later somebody rented it so I checked it out. Not at all what I expected, but so good.

In Bruges had me bawling... still not sure why. But then again, I cry with just about every movie.
And The Tracey Fragments was not what I expected at all (I never read the book).

In Bruges was fucking great.
I just picked up like, 10 oldschool horror dvds for $4.99, including the Ultimate Edition Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

When DVDs drop to below $5, I'll grab them up with no thought whatsoever.
"This one has a lady with robot eyes on the front. And it's two dollars." Buy.

Finally watched all three. I've always had trouble following British dialect. It usually takes two or three viewings before some things click. That said, In Bruges was good and much different than expected. How to Lose... was funny, but not something I'd pay full price to own. The Tracey Fragments had to be an art-grad project. The crazy editting detracted from the overall experience, unlike something like Requiem for a Dream. I liked it enough, but again, wouldn't add it to my collection for the full figure.
Overall, I got what I paid for. >.<
