My girlfriend bought me an ipod for my birthday. I forgot how much I've missed a constant access of music; my work-life instantly improved. Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about the lyrical content in my collection as the songs come and go, and since we haven't had a thread precisely like this in a while, post your favorite quotes, full-length or snippets or what-have-you.
"This town's so strange; They built it to change And while we're sleeping All the streets, they rearrange."

I think my all-time favorite is from "Sympathy" by Sleater-Kinney:
"There's no righteousness in your darkest moment We're all equal in the face of what we're most afraid of."
This is a cool idea for a thread, I'll think of more later!

From my favorite bad pun-fest Leftovers by Jarvis Cocker: "he says he loves you like a sister, well I guess that's relative."

"I used to dwell in the present I used to be so hesitant But now I've got my whole life to live And I've got all my love to give To all you fuckers that I hate"
Andrew Jackson Jihad rules. Gift of the Magi 2 is such a fun song.

I gotta quote Elliott, it's kinda expected. And I love the shit out of Pitseleh, so there you go.
"The first time I saw you, I knew it would never last I'm not half what I wish I was I'm so angry, I don't think it'll ever pass And I was bad news for you, just because I never meant to hurt you."
Also, all of the lyrics to It's cool we can still be friends by Bright Eyes, but the last part really destroys me </////3
"So, I'm pouring some whiskey, I'm gonna get drunk Yeah, I'm pouring myself some whiskey I'm gonna get real fucking drunk I'm pouring some whiskey right now I'm going to get so, so drunk That I pass out and forget your face By the time I wake up..."
Okay, i know i have a lot more of these, so i'll come back to this thread later.

'You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat But it melts in the sun like a life without love.'
Daniel Johns is a weird dude but somehow makes really beautiful songs out of complete fucking nonsense.

"I mean, what's the worst thing that could happen: We find out that we don't quite fit? But on the flip side, we could be just right, And, sure, there's the chance that We'd both end up broken and split. But that's my kind of risk."

Daniel Johns is a weird dude but somehow makes really beautiful songs out of complete fucking nonsense. David Byrne too. For some reason "sing into my mouth, out of all the kinds of people, you've got a face with a view" from This Must Be The Place really hits me on a personal level despite not knowing what any of it means.

The entirety of Brand New's "Play Crack the Sky". It's such a bitter metaphor and a rare feat to get that into an analogy and not lose the audience.

I sort of hate that song. Maybe it's just a phase, though. I do that with the Beatles.

Strange how the half-light can make a place new. You can't recognize me and I can't recognize you.
