i'm making a huge playlist of albums for summer. i should have done this earlier, but oh well. what are your favorite summer jams?
right now: Joyce Manor - S/t The Menzingers - Chamberlain Waits Banner Pilot - Collapser Brand New - Your Favorite Weapon Waka Flocka Flame - Flockaveli Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill The Bravery - s/t Cobra Skulls - Sitting Army
a little heavy on the pop punk, but fuck it, that's perfect music for sunny weather.

For me, when it comes to metal in the summer, I'm usually all about stuff that sounds like straight up metal. No keyboards, nothing too artsy---just straight up brutal.
High On Fire - any album really Behemoth - older stuff Arch Enemy Converge old Mastodon - specifically Remission. Morbid Angel
And of course, [fuck. embedding disabled]
I've been waiting for it actually turn summer and the weather to be scorching hot so I can blast that record in my car with the windows down. Best summer driving album evar.

Hard to say. Most everything. I associate the summer with going out to bars more, and pouring money into the jukebox. Which is maybe my favorite part of summer.
I tend to listen to the radio more during the summer nowadays, and then albums I loved as a kid (Op Ivy, Rancid, Explosions in the Sky, Modest Mouse, Punk 'o Rama(!!!), whatever.)
So...top 40 + general *alternative* from years up to and including 2006?
This summer it's "The Show Goes On" by Lupe Fiasco which has totally burned itself into my brain. Because it samples, like, the greatest summer song of the past ten years. (except for Move Your Feet?)
edit - Oh, and Pavement.

I listen to so much Gaslight in the summer. Last year was just hours upon hours of backroads driving and Sink or Swim on as loud as possible.

My summer listening doesn't really deviate from my winter listening.
All metal all the time.

I don't change my listening habits much for summer, but pop-punk always sounds good blasting out of rolled-down windows on a sunny day.

Last summer I was into a lot of metal bands that I never really explored before (Candlemass, Bathory, Nachtmystium) and it looks like that will continue this year.

I got an album by this band called Ghost and it's like if Mercyful Fate was a psychedelic rock band. It's awesome to listen to at this time of year.

Like others have been saying, it's all about nostalgia for me and I think the reason is because my memorable summers all revolve around summer vacation. And since most of my summer vacations took place in the 90s (2nd through 11th), most of my summer music selections comes from that era. Lots of 90s alt-rock, gangsta rap, and skate punk listening goes on when the temps start climbing.

Ghost are so good. great for summer, for a bunch of dudes from fucking Sweden. I've been rocking a lot of Fucked Up, Silent Hill 3 Soundtrack, Lard, and the new Horrors. Summer's a weird time for me. edit: Cold Cave's new record might define this summer for me. we'll see.
