Movie of the Week
Short Circuit My little half-siblings had never seen this dubious classic. Afterward, they thought of Johnny 5 as "a wackier, more menacing Wall-E" which makes me laugh terribly. I didn't remember the acting being so bad in this movie, but its awful. Guttenberg isn't Deniro or anything, but even Police Academy offered a better performance. Must be difficult working with a robot. And Ally Sheedy is just awful at times. And still, this movie rocks. Its almost a shame that Fischer Stevens performs his role best, perpetrating a bad Hollywood stereotype of Indian people... but he hits the funny strokes so well, and his broken dialogue is just incredibly well placed. He has so many gems in the film. "I am thinking she is a virgin... or at least she used to be."

I fucking loved this movie so much as a kid. I bought it a few weeks ago and have yet to get around to watching it.

Man, the 2nd one is so much better. No, really, it is. That part where he keeps Frankenstein and Pinnochio as books he connects with almost spiritually? Totally heartbreaking. Frickin robots.
