Yay Manda! I wish I could go and see Super Junior in Sydney but it's just not going to happen. I think I can only afford one spontaneous trip across the country for Kpop and I used it on Beast, Shinee and CN Blue.
Worth it.

I really need to start an infinite kpop fund because fuck. Mhmmmmm. More groups are doing solo shows outside of Asia these days and it gives me hope. Second Invasion (in both Korea and Japan) and Second Invasion Evolution sold out, and I am sure they will gain plenty more fans with their comeback next month, so hopefully they will make their way here eventually! I would settle for seeing them at a Kpop festival, though, provided I can get there. On that note, can somebody please come to Florida?

Ugh. I watched a video and when he turns around again it sounds like he might say 'but thank you' but I didn't listen very closely and didn't really care enough to listen a lot.
Anyway where I grew up was packed with religious people and, as I grew up catholic, I was surrounded by people like Siwon who were genuinely good in most ways but wholeheartedly believed that gay was the WORST WORST thing ever and you were going to hell for sure. I guess not much has changed for me because I already knew he felt this way and I'm really desensitized to that line of thinking? I'm constantly surrounded by people I know hate me for who I'm attracted to so I'd much rather ignore that completely and focus on the things that don't suck.
Wouldn't blame anybody who decided they were done with him, though it reminds me of that Junsu thing where he said something about people who commit suicide go to hell? He's one of the religious ones, yeah? Because that's what they teach you to believe, I couldn't believe anybody was surprised. I used to believe that back in the day, so I assume any religious idol has most of the same beliefs I was raised with, including the ones that completely suck.
Ramble ramble.

I've never heard the junsu thing(or maybe I blocked it out) I've also never heard the suicide = hell thing outside of the net. It explains a lot though because every time the subject of suicide comes up there is always someone saying that and I could never figure out where it came from. My family is baptist and they don't follow that belief. =/

Also I suppose this Siwon thing upset me even more than it normally would because he might be automatically assuming that there's some gayness involved here. It could have been a straight fanboy who just really admired him. What that fan got in return was his idol telling him no he can't love him. That has to suck.

No right judas no matter how that kid meant it it sucked but if that's really all he was doing it's like.. ouch dude. He was just appreciating, no matter how super straight you are can't you just be grateful and take it?
As far as the Junsu thing goes I don't know if it was actually true and I don't know the context at all but I have seen people talking about it before a few different times and I thought I saw sources linked but who knows. I was just like 'well duh he thinks that' so I didn't look into it hahahah. But I also did assume suicide = hell was a christian thing across the board but I guess not. I can tell you it is definitely catholic at least! hahahah.

I remember when that Junsu thing was going around on Tumblr... that's not what he said and it annoyed me that the person wrote it like that haha. What he actually said (and this was on Twitter btw) was something like... "remember that suicide is a sin" and then something about how you can overcome sadness and blah blah (because it's so easy lol right). And like... okay yeah, saying it's a sin implies hell (right..? I'm not the most knowledgeable on Christian uh.. rules), but that's still not what he said. But anyway yeah he is super religious and is one of the (relatively few, I believe) idols who, like Siwon, is very open about it. Don't quote me on this but I think he and his family are part of the LDS movement? Oh yeah and I suppose while I'm here I might as well add my thoughts on Siwon. You guys probs saw my reblog, but anyway hm it just made me really sad. I remember a few months ago Siwon had taken a picture with Hong Seokcheon (the celeb who came out out several years ago and lost all his jobs and was shunned for a while but was eventually able to bounce back), and I was soooo excited. I recalled the interview Siwon did back in 2008 where he said that he doesn't acknowledge the existence of homosexuality, and the photo made me think, "Wow, not only does he acknowledge the gays, he's actually hanging out with one!" But those gifs from the video unfortunately brought me back to reality... Yeah, he may possibly be able to admit that gay people are a real thing now, but that's about as far as he's willing to go I guess hahaha. I recognize that Siwon is a good person in many other ways, and that's fantastic... but any kind of homophobic behavior will always just break my heart a little bit more. Oh Siwon.

Typically that is just a less severe way of saying you are sending yourself straight to hell, yeah. Some sins are more serious than others (since like.. punching a dude in the face would be a sin, but surely not one to send you right to hell hahahah) so not all leave you completely screwed (god's so forgiving if you repent, you see), but yeah suicide is up there. I'm not 100% on where it lies in terms of severity because it's not like they gave us a list of mortal sins or anything, but I do know it's considered murdering yourself and murder is a big no no. I am pretty sure fapping is on the same list as suicide though so I'm already a lost cause if they gay hadn't done it. Oh here look, something of an actual list if you are curious. Oh yeah so see suicide is as terrible as such crimes as fapping, divorce, and intentionally missing mass! Catholic priorities, man. (Should also mention this is coming from a completely catholic standpoint, god knows what Junsu is into, but 'suicide is a sin = you will go to hell' about 99.999% of the time.) Anyway hahhaha. Kpop! I need a Beast comeback like nobody's business, my god. Also I want Hyunseung's twitter back.

OH and your edit dude I remember that picture and I remember getting my hopes up too, but.. he's just so religious, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop hahhaha. I'm afraid I'm coming off as otherwise so I want to say again totally totally don't blame anybody who wants to bail on him or who is just really hurt about it, it's just that I have to spend so much time telling my brothers why calling something gay or using fag as an insult is hurtful (to OTHERS of course, god if they knew I was bi they would just think I was being a sensitive sally and I get enough of that already) and I dealt with so much 'BOO GAY BAD' growing up (though I'm sure most people do) that I don't want to let it get to me, you know? So I will just ignore it probably, given that I will never be able to actually confront him about it.

kt that is actually quite a fascinating list hahahaha thank you. So many grave sins goodness!!
And yeah I understand what you mean in the second post. It's just a little different for me in that, irl where I am surrounded by lots of people who are all "eww" about gay, I don't have much of a choice but to put up with it, but on the internet I'm free to be my social justice-y self, so it's much harder for me to let things like that go.
And Nicky I think Mormonism is its own little thing... like a denomination? But the LDS movement itself is much more broad. That being said I just googled "LDS South Korea" and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is what we call the Mormon Church, "As of year-end 2007, [...] had 80,421 members, 17 stakes, 6 districts, 94 wards, and 49 branches in South Korea." So. Who knows hahaha.

How in the hell do I manage to muck up where I put apostrophes when quoting things EVERY time. I know where I want them to go and then do not put them there, it is maddening!
And right, thank god my parents were pretty chill about everything so I didn't grow up thinking EVERYTHING I did was a sin. Or well okay at least they never made me feel that way, but the church did a good enough job of it hahahha.
And I totally get how you feel, sort of an 'agree to disagree' sort of thing except with how we cope with people being dicks hahahah. I've just gotten a bit tired of being social justicey on the internet hahhaah. Almost as tiring as it is in real life, it feels like.
And wow completely missed the part where you did actually tell me what Junsu might be into hahahah, my bad!!

Oh yes... it is very tiring. D: I think at this point though it's so deeply embedded in my brain that there is no way for me to just... not be terribly bothered by things, no matter how (relatively) minor. It's especially hard to be a Kpop fan when so many screwy things happen all the time hahaha... When an idol I really like messes up, I take it pretty badly. But if it's someone I really really like, I try to remind myself that they still possess plenty of wonderful qualities, as that is why I like them, and that I just need to take the bad with the good. Or something. Sorry I'm going on and on ahaha, just trying to bring it back to Kpop a bit because Kpop thread.

No nah it's nice to talk about hahhaha. I really struggle with idols messing up because it's like.. I have so much invested in them that it's embarrassingly terrible when they say something really racist or sexist or something. I just want to enjoy one thing, why don't you all stop sharing your personal opinions when they are terrible hahahah. Just.. talk about nice things and keep looking good and sing songs and make dramas and let me have fun for a while. So yeah the whole 'focusing on the good things' gets really helpful doesn't it hahahah.

Post by Mindy on Apr 15, 2012 22:28:14 GMT -5
Oh god RIGHT sometimes I wonder if I'll ever be able to fully enjoy something ever again, hahahahahahaha. I think it's pretty sad that when idols say/do good things (like Hyunjoong saying that sexual harassment can be prevented if men just stop doing it), I'm like... overwhelmed with joy, hahaha. Why can't they all just say good things all of the time and stupid things never. But yes... yes... must continue to focus on the good.
