That looks awesome.
I would love to see some videos of your bases, if possible. I think I might make one tonight.

Turns out that when the server went down, it also erased a large chunk of said structure. So, I started building it back up and the guy who helped me popped up and helped me finish it again pretty quick. Ultimately, I went less pyramid and more El Castillo, Chichen Itza. Which is still a pyramid. It's still not completely finished, but the structure itself is complete.

So I'm drinking a rum and coke and wondering what it would be like to play Minecraft drunk. I wonder how many penis buildings will be made.
Unfortunately I do not have enough rum to get drunk.

Are all these crazy amazing things you guys are building being made on the in-brower servers?

For me, no. I downloaded and bought the program. In that version, I have to mine materials, kill monsters, and can make stuff. You have to buy this version in order to play it (or at least pirate it). The free game, which is only online, you have an infinite amount of blocks of every type. While its really fun to just build a bunch of shit, having to fight off monsters makes it 10x better.

I built my pyramid on a semi-private server some folks invited me to. For the pyramid itself, I did everything by hand right up to the very end when I started embellishing. All of the clearing and main construction was through mining and digging, though.
Afterward, when I replaced the entire floor with smooth stone? Or started adding light stone every where? One of the people who runs the server decided I was trustworthy so they made me an OP, which allows me to give anyone (myself included) as much of any item as I want.
For the new base I'm working on, I've been abusing it. I'm not so into the mining aspects of the game as I am the building. Like, it's fun, but it gets old for me. I just want to build crazy shit sometimes.

I'm a sucker for the mining, survival aspect. Like the new castle I'm building needs wood floors, and I want to use raw logs, so I'm going to gear up and go find a forest and live in a logging cabin for a week or so and just collect lumber. It's going to be awesome.

Gahdamn I wish we could get a NOMB server going. Also P I don't know if you know (you may know, but this shit took me ages to find out) but F11 lets you do true fullscreen.

So, I decided to start clearing out a space to build a castle type structure. Only, you know, one that doesn't suck.
After serious thought, I decided to go with 160 X 160.
Yeah.
I almost finished the floor before pausing the game and leaving the room, at which point Remus jumped on the keyboard, unpaused it, and managed to walk me off into some water. Since it's SMP, and Notch fixed damage, even on peaceful, you eventually drown. So I came back to the game over screen.
Why this matters?
Before I started building, in order to get away from everyone else and not interfere with their space, I teleported to the location of another person on the server. 7 hours away from /home. He walked for 7 hours to get to that area. There's no fucking way I'm walking it.

DUDEEEEE. That really sucks. I'm sorry. You might be able to get an admin to reset your position or teleport you. In other news, Beta. December 20th. Price is going to 14.95 euros, and future updates "aren't guaranteed" to be free for non-alpha players (apparently it's just legal language just in case). notch.tumblr.com/post/2175441966/minecraft-beta-december-20-2010

They can't do much. If the other person is ever on at the same time as me, I could teleport back there, if he hasn't abandoned the area yet. I kind of already decided to just leave it, though. I've already cleared out a new 120 X 120 space that's not too far from /home (should stop saying that since that doesn't work anymore) with a complete to and from rail system leading to it.
I'm kind of happy that MC is moving up to beta on my birthday. I was afraid I wouldn't get anything at all this year. If anyone is on the fence about getting this game, this is the time to do it. After it goes to Beta, the price goes up and you're not guaranteed free updates outside of patches and bug fixes. They'll most likely be free, but everything Notch does causes his lawyers to panic. However, if you buy it in alpha you're guaranteed all updates and possible expansions for free. A better deal is hard to find.

Seriously, I'm interested in seeing the big updates/fixes with Beta. Most notably the 'non-intrusive narrative.'
I've been looking around trying to find a server to play on that actually works fairly well. The whole re-spawning block thing is super obnoxious when trying to dig/build anything, so I just keep ending up going back to single player and building ridiculous things. I think I'm on my third, most expansive, tower. I even built a floating island next to it, so I could have a place to farm. It goes from adminium and will go up to the very top of the world. And I plan on adding more floating islands around the sides. I just don't know how to get grass to grow on the dirt. It's weird. Also went through and dug underground tunnels 2 x 2 all the way from near my spawn point, through my old base, into the new tower. It's a good 15 minute walk.
I'm thinking about trying and starting a new world playing in a totally different method. Completely not affecting/changing the map. Just seeing how long I can survive without any supplies or anything, except stuff that I may find, like drops from skeletons and zombies that burnt up, animals that accidentally fell to their death, etc. I have a feeling I'd be spending every night panicking in the middle of the ocean.

If I had people to play with, $120 for a 10 slot server for the next year wouldn't seem like such a terrible deal. I should probably consider playing on some of the larger multiplayer servers, but, meh.
I'm still pissed that the server I was playing just vanished. I put so much work into something I was building. I'm already bored with single player again, though.

Reviving this thread because I just got the game.
I'm addicted. I'm actually tempted to play in the middle of my class right now. Haha. I'm working on my first major project right now. It's a castle with two stories, and a huge watchtower on top. Almost done with the second floor right now.

I always find I get so emotionally attached to shit that I build. Especially if I have monsters on and I have to build a little cave at night, I'll always put my castle above it.

Sup kids. So I've been doing a few adventure maps. They've been AWESOME. Now that I have faster internet, I'm capable of providing a small server (probably 4 people max). Let me know if any of you are interested in doing an adventure map with me.

SO EXCITED I officially have the Minecraft bug again. I'm way more into the building than the mining, but I'm playing on a server with Robert and his brother, so they do all the mining and I take all the materials. It's perfect

I think I'm finally going to start working on my adventure map.
I have lots of ideas and some rough ideas on the design.
I'd actually like to make it in several parts, with each part being sort of like another chapter, with an opening cutscene and an additional cutscene between each. Problem with that is, even if I just try to go for creating each one inside of Minecraft, I'm not sure my poor laptop could handle the recording at the same time. Bah.

Oooh. Definitely interested to see what you'd come up with for an adventure map(s). I definitely think adventure maps are one of my favorite parts of Minecraft/the Minecraft community. I've been playing Skyblock (1.1) quite a bit lately in between packing. It's not an adventure map, but you start with limited resources on a small bit of land and have you be crafty to make it out ahead. I've gotten a stockpile of supplies now. Just built a mob drop, so I can get string and arrows. I started building some smooth stone floating islands so I can make some pretty buildings on them, because why not? This game seriously has so much longevity, it's ridiculous.
I'm pretty anxious to see what else is going to be coming. I know they've been kind of bombarding us with pre-releases and tons of new features in each one. I'm already enjoying a lot of the story people are coming up with in regards to The End/Ender realm.
