I saw that some of you were posting about it in the video games thread, but I figured honestly, it deserves its own thread. So, here you can post things you've built, things you've stumbled across, stories, etc, etc. I was playing earlier and stumbled across this. You may not be able to see very well what that is, but it's a skeleton RIDING a spider. Apparently this isn't just a glitch, it's actually been programmed in, and happens occasionally. That's seriously like the most terrifying combination of mobs.

Haven't seen the dread spider riding skeleton, not sure if I ever want to. I'll have to take a screencap of my current project, I moved on from my floating castle, which was shitty, and ventured forth in a boat, seeking new lands. I'm working on a multi- level mine, built in a concentric spiral. Until I get bored that is.

My first night in my first world I got attacked by a skeleton riding a spider. Keep in mind I knew nothing about this game at the point. I'd read nothing. I'd only played the creative version so I had absolutely no idea what was going on when it got dark and I bumped into a zombie. I'm like, "Whoa, there are NPC's?" Then it attacked me and I ran like hell, right into the oncoming charge of a spider riding skeleton. Right now I'm in the midst of a fruitless diamond search. I cannot find any and it's pissing me off. That being said, I built a nifty lighthouse / tower on top of a strange hill and a small underwater room to hang out in. I've got a decent sized greenhouse for farming wheat and I'm still working out from my mine shaft in hopes that I will eventually find my beloved diamonds. This game is absurd and addictive and I hate it.

I need to build a light house, my spawn point is a pretty long boat ride away, and I fear if I die, I may not be able to find my new island.

Ah, yeah. I made sure to set up some torches to lead me from my spawn point to my base. I die too often from stupid crap to not do that right off the bat.
Nearby, I did some pretty deep surface mining, until I hit some of the underground natural caverns, so I explored those a bit. Very recently, I decide to just dig down to the bedrock level, and mine straight out in every direction, since diamonds are usually more common down deeper.
The trouble with this plan is that I keep opening pockets of lava and frantically placing blocks back where they were, until I can dig above the lava, and try to move it.
The lava-moving process has led to me just deciding to make a lake of lava, which ended up turning into an obsidian farm. Not that I really have any need for obsidian, other than the apparent portal building that you'll be able to do once that update on Halloween takes place.
On the opposite side of the mountain I set up my base inside, I started building a tower/castle very loosely based on Barad-Dur. Because, why the heck not? I really need to do some creeper farming, so I can get a bunch of gun powder to make TNT, because I'm feeling way too lazy to dig huge ditches around the outside edge of it.

This seems interesting, what is this Minecraft you speak of?

Hmm, that seems interesting, but I'm too cheap right now to buy much of anything, including a computer game. I'll have to remember this when I'm not pinching pennies and it's more developed.

Minecraft "Classic" is free in single player and multiplayer... so you could just play around with that. It's quite fun.

I finally found a little bit of diamond in a cave system...then proceeded to get completely and totally lost. That being said, I had a bucket of water with me which I was able to recycle over and over and create unholy amounts of Obsidian. Now I just need a few thousand hours to mine it all.

I built a pretty nifty house, mostly out of stone but with various wooden accents. In my attempt to build a lava lamp I set it, and the forest on my roof, on fire. Luckily it was a pretty easy rebuild. I kinda wish I had friends doing multiplayer. I never really saw the point until I watched a random video tour of a multiplayer server and it looks like so much fun, building an entire town with other people, that I wanna do it.

Yes. Totally with you on the multiplayer. It would be wicked fun to build towns/cities/etc with other people. My friend goes on the server of a guy he works with, but nobody's really on there very much, so there isn't much point, so I just sort of explore and built a little hobbit hole in a valley.
If I thought my computer could handle running a server for a bunch of people, I'd totally set one up and invite you guys.

Multiplayer will be wicked when it has health and such. I can just imagine building a castle, and perhaps invading another groups castle. So awesome.

I broke down and downloaded Invedit because I just wanted to build shit.
I think that's what I like most about Minecraft and I hope it doesn't change once it reaches a more final version. It can be whatever game you want. You want to dig and find shit? You can. You want to fight the baddies, dig the mines, build the castles? It's there. You want to skip the baddies, dig the mines, and still build? It's there. You want to skip everything but the building, there are ways to do that, too.
I love that aspect of the game. Sometimes, I don't want to worry about creepers or dig. I just want to build adn the creative mode just doesn't have the options that Alpha has. In those cases, fuck yeah Invedit.

There is a Survival Multiplayer version. It would be really cool to have teams and such.

Ghasts. They're fuckin' huge and brutal.
Zombiepigmen. They are terrifying if you piss them off. Just don't attack them. For the love of all that is holy, don't attack them. They will murder you then keep murdering you after they murder you. They tend to travel in groups, so it's like being attacked by 4 - 10 super Zombies. You don't stand a damn chance.

On a less horrifying note, some of the new music is absolutely gorgeous and I really love the new sunrises and sunsets.
I also don't know if it's something that would interest anyone else or will ever catch on, but I kind of love some of the outside stuff you can do with this game. One guy just created an interactive Minecraft save of sorts. Basically, he went around hiding clues in various places in his world then uploaded the save file. Once you reached the end, you had to break the code then email him the answer. No real prize for it yet, but it's kinda fun.

So I just bought this game and I'm fucking addicted to it. When first started playing it, I was thinking "meh, this is pretty cool. I'll play it for about 20 minutes." Literally 5 hours later, and I'm still playing.
If we could somehow start a DF server that would be incredible.

That would be so good. I love this game. I'm way more into collecting and digging and building than chasing after zombies, though. What I tend to do is build something rad in Peaceful, them put it to Hard and wait for the zombies and hide in my fort to see how good it is. My tower is right on top of my spawn point, built over the little hideaway I built on my first night when I didn't really know what was going on. Off the the left you can see another mine entrance, I have a few scattered around. I have a really bad habit of digging across instead of down, because I like the mines to look orderly. Also I've really bonded with Robert's little brother over this. He's on it constantly. He built this last week. It has an underground orchard and a lava room. And he has an insane network of tracks and carts running underneath: Minecraft: keeping families tight.

I built an indestructible and aesthetically pleasing fort. Basically, the walls are three layers thick, with the middle layer being Obsidian. I'm keeping that in mind for the day I go into multiplayer and someone decides to build a cannon and take my stuff out. My buildings will survive anything.

I'm still trying to figure out the server stuff. I was able to start one on my own IP address, but I'm not exactly sure if other people can connect to it.
Also, if you're going to do multiplayer, you HAVE to buy it ($14 USD). You can't have a pirated copy. Its only going to be $14 until the beta comes out, which will be about $30 so if you're into now and plan on staying with it, buy it while its half off. This game is going to be AMAZING once its done. Imagine a team deathmatch thing? UGGGGGG.
