Wow, this was even more misogynistic than I was anticipating.
I wasn't even terribly impressed with the movie as a whole. Eisenberg's performance is really good, as is JT's, but in terms of the story and characters, my don't-give-a-shit meter ran out of batteries real quick. Everyone raves about the score, and it was good, but it felt horribly out of place in a lot of scenes. Speaking of scenes that don't make sense, WTF was up with that rowing race? It seemed like it was shot differently, the music was weird; it just stuck out as being really weird.

That's really annoying. I want to watch this film because I'm in love with Jesse Eisenberg now but I just really don't want to. Also I made a promise to myself never to watch a film Justin Timberlake was in and I don't want to break a promise.

To people who have seen this film is it really worth the Oscar hype? Like, really? I know people really liked it and it did big at the box office but people also love the shit out of crappy movies that have big box office draws.

IMO? No, definitely not. Maybe an acting nod for Eisenberg, but he wasn't good enough to actually win it.

I think it deserves all the nominations, but I don't think it deserves to win any of them. Maybe Best Score, but that's it.

Andrew Garfield was really good too. as someone who has never seen the King's Speech, I really hope it loses to The Social Network for best picture. (AND I WON'T BE SHAKEN) though I'd rather see Black Swan or Inception win for sure in conclusion, this probably didn't help you at all
oh, and it's better than Crash, if that's even a point worth making

As someone who HAS seen The King's Speech, I'll be pissed if it loses Best Picture. It's miles and miles ahead of The Social Network.

This movie was super depressing. Like, a movie you want to watch if you want to feel bad about how you'll never be that successful.

Finally got around to watching this (and reading the whole thread). The film is fantastic. The pace is so... insane at times. I really enjoyed how they tapped into Mark's way of thinking with all of the jump editing, and Reznor's score really strengthens that overall tone. The movie wove in and out of the story as it unfolded, and what at times felt tasking (to watch) turned out quite explanatory and entertaining. God, almost everyone in this movie is a money/acclaim-starved piece of shit! Jesse Eisenberg played his character so well.
Not to reopen the misogyny topic so inexpertly, but I felt its purpose in the movie was sensible--to display how heartless this group of people were/are. I enjoyed that the movie opens and closes on its one strong and thoroughly likable character (Erica Albright). For me, it highlighted what Zuckerberg's motivations were throughout the film, and brought him full circle from slandering the one person that saw him for what he was to wanting her forgiveness (although I doubt that he's had a genuine rehabilitation of character flaw at this point... almost making it an act of desperation?).
Anyway, great film, but placed properly by the Oscars. It won the only things it deserved to win (mostly because other films this year were just THAT amazing).
