shit, if there really are more dates to come in 2011, i'll be crushed if they don't come out west. i'm disappointed that they aren't already! this is pretty great news though, i can't wait to hear whatever new shit they record!

M. Gira put out a CD of him doing some of the songs solo and acoustic, but of course I was broke and it was limited edition. And I'm not downloading it out of respect. . .he hates downloading. But I'm totally impatient anyway, I forget when it was supposed to come out. . .oh well. At least the YGR office is so close to me that I always get CDs from there two days after I order them.

i'm an asshole and download his shit anyway. i'm planning on buying it (i'm REALLY gutted that i pretty much HAVE to buy CDs because there's no vinyl in print), which isn't worth shit but whatever, i'll give him my money someday, he can keep an IOU from me in the meantime.
i'm assuming you read that interview with him where he talks about playing some Angels of Light song live and they hit some jam part that sounded like Swans? i'm pretty glad that that happened and he decided to bring Swans back.

I did the same thing at first but once I was "caught up", I stopped downloading. . .if there's any new releases I can't afford I wait until I can afford them.
Anyway yeah, I probably did. Later Swans without Jarboe seems a bit weird I guess, but it's not like her presence was in every song. And I imagine there's weirdness between them preventing her participation anyway.

yeah, when i was talking to a friend of mine about it we both agreed that while it kind of sucks that Jarboe isn't in the new Swans, it's not really that big of a deal.
and that's pretty much what i'm planning on doing, i just have to catch up still. oh, and i wanted to ask you, do you know of anywhere that i'd be able to hear a really early live version of "Cop"? i've read that the early live versions were more brutal in every way, but i can't find any videos from before like 1986ish.

I haven't heard one, no. I generally don't like live music so I don't seek it out (though the live version of I Am the Sun they put on the end of The Great Annihilator CD is pretty cool, as well as the songs on Soundtracks For the Blind). I'd probably say to keep looking through Soulseek until you hit a good one.
EDIT: Have you heard the one on Body To Body, Job To Job? I forgot all about that one. I have that since it's packaged with Filth. . .says all the recordings are '82-'85.
HEY I KEEP EDITING: Listening to it now and I guess it's alright, I wouldn't say it's 'brutal'. Lots of echo on the vocals for some reason. I basically got Body To Body, Job To Job and kept listening to "Red Sheet", "Your Game" and "Seal It Over" over and over again (particularly "Seal It Over").

Goddammit, hahaha. Would I find this funny for any other band? Probably not. But I distinctly remember having quite a few exchanges about how, without Jarboe, Swans was all about "raw heterosexual male energy" and shit like that (so, she "ruined Swans". . .I wonder if new Swans is tainted without her?). Anyway that probably explains why it makes me giggle. I still don't have the new album. I ordered it Friday, and promptly got this email: Which just kind of makes me happy, really. . .I mean, on one level, I guess it must kind of suck to not get this kind of enthusiasm until you revive a band 10+ years in the grave. But on another, Swans never really saw the success they deserved, so it's kind of heartwarming to see the response. I know I, personally, ordered 'We Are Him' the moment it came out too, though!

OK, I'm bumping this thread as an excuse to post this link: www.rockfeedback.com/tv/direct/channels/297400/1105844/ So fucking awesome. I love his sense of humor. Lady asks him "So how have fans been responding to all of this promotional stuff you've been doing for Swans?" (paraphrased...). "Really well! They particularly like buying the vials of my sperm that I'm selling, they really like those." "Err, I don't know if [you're?] joking. . ." The silly grin seals it. Haha. Then he's slapping himself in the face and I can't tell if it's meant to be a piece of the music or he's just strange. . .I guess someone to whom face-slapping is a musical thing might be kind of strange anyway, huh? Haha. God, I don't think I'd have any fun with normal musicians.

Buying just Sean a ticket for the show at the end of the month, not one for me because it's 21+, was one of the most depressing things I've done. I'm still so sad I can fucking go. He's playing at one the very few all ages venues here, and made it fuckin' 21+ for the night. You bastard! You damn musically beautiful bastard.

What the hell? Knowing him, it wouldn't surprise me if he assumed there'd be fewer jerks at a 21+ show or something. He really hates moshing, for example. ?? That's the only idea I have about it, anyway.
