Don't know who else is watching, but if you aren't, you probably should be. Currently, I'm still pissed about what happened with Varro. Makes me major

So glad I'm not the only one watching. And agreed. Even though I knew it was going to happen (stupid reading the summary for next week before watching this week), I was still so angry and upset. Fuck. But it seems like the last few episodes are going to be pretty wild. There are so many side stories and back stories and secrets and shit going on. Watching it all unravel is going to be a trip.

I'm amazed with the casting. There still hasn't been a bad casting imo. Knock on wood.
I'm just hoping they don't over-do the side/back stories. A show can easily get ruined with that.

The casting is indeed excellent. And I am actually pretty impressed with the visuals. For every somewhat silly 300-esque over the top blood splatter, there seems to be an amazingly framed scene that's all gorgeous and cinematic and dramatic in all the right ways. I think they've kept a pretty good balance so far with the side-stories and weaving them back and forth (although it does seem that so far the way they are resolving the story-lines of secondary characters is to kill them off ). I'm just waiting for some sort of reckoning and am interested in seeing if they vaguely follow the historical info. It does seem like they are laying the groundwork for a rebellion. I'm also super bummed that there are only three more episodes for the season.

Only two more days!
A thirteen episode season is way too fucking short.

Isn't 12-13 episodes the norm for a season?

Maybe it's a cable network thing. I'm used to a network season being like 20-25 episodes or so.

Indeed. Definitely looking forward to Season 2 when it happens. Hopefully Andy Whitfield's treatments go well. But at least it seems they caught it early.

Yeah, I hope he can return. He's an amazing actor, other than the squinty constipation look he kinda gets sometimes. I loved the title for the episode too. Kill them all. Perfect.

Gods Of The Arena was pretty disappointing. I understand it was kinda thrown together last minute, but it felt like they combined all the weak parts of season one and it really dragged.

HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD, THIS IS MY FUCKING SHOOOOOOOW.
Gods of the Arena was awesome! The way it ended for Gannicus was a total surprise. And they did a great job of getting you to understand why everyone is the way they are, especially Lucretia.

I wonder if they're going to throw Gannicus in the third season. I have a feeling that Crixus didn't forget him.

The only thing I'm worried about for season 3 is how they can possibly replace Batiatus and Lucretia. They were so awesome. You never knew if they were the good guys or the bad guys!

I haven't heard if Lucy Lawless has signed on for the next season, but at the end, it seems like they leave it open as to whether or not she dies. I mean, sword to the gut is probably more or less fatal, but she was still twitching by the end. I would so love to see her fully take out Ilithyia.

New season started on Friday.
Liam McIntyre as Spartacus is still throwing me off. Physically, he's not too bad. But for whatever reason, whenever he speaks, it's like he's playing Christian Bale as Batman as Spartacus. And he still seems so...young? Soft? I don't know. I'm hoping that he'll figure it out quick.
Episode wise, it was a little disjointed, but I think it's a necessary "setting all the pieces in motion" type episode. Definitely some really really great moments, and on watching it again (trying to get over the newness of the new actor) there are things that I am liking more, so I have hope that the season overall will be really good.
Anyone else still watching?

And I'm really confused by some of the stuff going on because I completely forgot some of the events what with the season 2 being a different/earlier storyline.

I just can't connect with Liam McIntyre as Spartacus.

Has anybody else watched War of the Damned? Liam McIntyre was much better this season; he was kind of iffy in Vengeance (and some of that was probably due to the character stuff) but he nailed it this time.
For it being based (loosely) on historical events, they did a great job with keeping it from being too predictable. There were a few times when I almost thought they were just going to say fuck it and have Crassus or Ceasar die. That made it even harsher every time Crassus destroyed their plans. They really did an excellent job with him, though his son could have been better. Ceasar was the weakest part of the season, really not necessary to throw him in there. The character was a bit obnoxious but would have been tolerable if we didn't know it was Ceasar and that he couldn't die.
I liked how they ended things, and the "I am Spartacus!" thing in the second to last episode was a good nod to the Kubrick version.
