I think this will end up being what Spiderman 3 was. I hope not though.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Iron Man 1 was rad, but the script was pretty bad/nonexistent. It relied completely on the actors to hold it together. Adding Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle was a very good move, but I can easily see this becoming a Spiderman 3 if they screw up, as someone pointed out.
Here's hoping for the best!

Jon Favreau and Marvel have this well in hand, I'm sure. Spiderman 3 suffered from producers buckling under the pressure of a big pile of fanboy bullshit called Venom. Iron Man is a lesser-known, slightly less beloved property that isn't really attached to any particular story arc or villain. Iron Man has no 'black suit,' no 'phoenix saga,' nothing really but a cool idea and some solid actors to back it up.

I'm in. Anything with RDJ is a movie I will probably like. Plus, even if it does end up being a cheesy superhero/comic book movie, I'll probably like it anyway. I have horrible taste like that.

I don't understand why anyone would go into a movie like this expecting more than a cheesy superhero/comic book movie because that's what it is. If it ends up better than that then awesome, but I wouldn't get all uppity if it wasn't.
I'm stoked for this, though.

what I liked about this movie was Tony Snark. as long as Tony Snark remains in the pilot seat, this movie will be awesome.

The reason this movie isn't going to be anything like you described is because it's directed by a man that is actually a comic fan.Not only a comic fan, but one that's a big Iron Man fan. Most comic movies are not filmed by fans. That's why the first one is a great movie. That's why this one is going to be a great movie. If they got more people that are fans to make these comic movies, they'd be some of the greatest movies ever made.

I'm not gonna lie, I fanboy pretty hard for Downey, Cheadle, and Rourke.
This movie will be another wonderful example of how to make a comic book movie that is both good and fun.

Man, I didn't say it wasn't going to be a great movie. I'm just saying I don't get why someone would walk into a movie about a guy flying around in a metal suit and get pissed off because it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece. I don't know shit about the director, nor do I care all that much. I know I liked the first one for what I saw it as and chances are, I'll like the second one for the exact same reason. I'm looking at this from the perspective of someone that's A) never even held a comic book in his life and B) probably not going to be sober when I go see it.
