Part of me is really excited for "Born This Way" but I'm also very worried for it. She keeps saying its the record of the decade and that's its going to offend a lot of people. From what I've read from different sources, its mainly going to piss off the conservative Christians. I'm worried its going to be too preachy, too forwarded and really have no depth other than "LGBT ALL THE WAY!". I agree with you guys saying her approach to the transgender is lacking/inaccurate/poor/whatever, but, hey, at least she's appreciating them some how (except for "Telephone". Some of the live videos I've seen on YT, she seems to be more aware of the trans-community than just the --Gays--.)
I'm also drunk, so bare with my mistakes and what not.
Edit: Sweet. First post on a new page. I'M A STAR.

I read them earlier tonight and I was going to post them, but I decided not to because I feel like it would get judged to quickly on this board for being an inaccurate representation of transgendered people. So I took a shower and thought about it. My initial reaction to these lyrics were "wow, these are so shit simple, very outward and preachy, and, really, not thought provoking like her other songs." I was disappointed. I know Gaga can do better than this. Then I wondered "I'm just reading these lyrics, so I'm sure the music will really give them more emotion"; but even then, they're still the same. There's nothing to chew.
I began to realize, however, that this is her first single off her newest album. She's now a big time star and has made a huge impact on pop culture. She's absolutely every where and every one knows who she is whether they like her or not, and what she stands for. So perhaps there's a reason to these shit simple lyrics. I know in recent interviews Gaga keeps making remarkable claims that "this is going to be the album of the decade" and "its going to piss off a lot of people." Well, in relation to the content of this song (being "born this way", gender, faith), who's going to get pissed off? Obviously not her fans. They'll love what ever she puts out. It will be those who can't stand her. This song is a clear, straightforward message to those who are against the ideas mentioned in this song, whether these negative opinions are personal or made for them by religious belief. The song is meant not only to uplift her fans (like many of her songs), but also to say in an easy, (in my opinion) polite way of saying "We are who we are, deal with it." She's using her fame to send this positive message to those who think other wise.
As for the problem with her giving an inaccurate representation of the transgendered community ("Don't Be a Drag--Be A Queen!"): all I can say is, yeah, I agree it is distorted or whatever, but at least they are being mentioned. Its a start.
Also, extra points if you picked out my Ke$ha reference.

Rather than getting into the millions of ways that it is completely inappropriate for cis people to dictate to trans people that they should gleefully accept throw away mentions by a pop star with a history of moments of blatant transphobia and cissupremacism, along with the complete disregard and erasure of the concerns, issues, and experiences of many, many trans people; I will simply take a very pedantic route and stance:
Transgender, people. Not transgendered. I am not whited. You are not maled. Gaga is not blonded. I am not transgendered.

First off, I sincerely apologize if I offended you or anyone for using "transgendered". Clearly I'm not as educated as some of you are. I mean no harm and I will definitely make an effort to not to use that specific term with "-ed".
P., I'm assuming the main part of my post you're referring to is the third short section. I was very hesitant on posting that part because I had a feeling someone would react to it like you did. Once again (and I'm really not just riding on this "playing dumb" excuse), I'm not as well educated on the topic of transgender people and I apologize. After what you said, I can infer what is inappropriate ("throw away mentions", "cissupremacism", etc.). I was giving my interpretation of the lyrics and its relation to her fame/art. While I now understand what I said was wildly inappropriate, at the time I was taking a shot at trying to relate my opinion to transgender people because I know its a hot topic on this board.

I feel like Ke$ha has the least recognizable face on earth. She looks like no one and everyone. I know her because of who she isn't in a photo.

So, the song's out!
Thoughts?
I am loving it, I don't care that it has a generic beat. Fuuuck Lady Gaga and her shit show, but I'm always down to steal some catchy music. Now to find a download link that won't monetarily support her...

I think it's even more boring and derivative than usual. This. While I've come to appreciate some her stuff after being force-fed them on every radio station for months on end, I don't ever see myself warming up to this song.

DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN unless you're a drag queen please shut the fuck up um yeah hi this is super racist. who says "orient" past like 1950. NO MATTER GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI, LESBIAN, TRANSGENDERED LIFE transgenderED? not a fucking word. and i am so fucking sick of straight, white, cis people writing anthems for the oppressed. you're a woman and you're an outcast, write about that. don't write about shit you haven't lived. this is not my power anthem and you can fuck off. also it sounds like waterfalls meets express yourself. those songs, both way better.

I love it, I think it's ridiculous to get mad over it, it's just a dance song. She kinda wants you to get mad over it, I guess. IONO! I'll dance to it.

you kind of have to wonder whether she thought all of the lyrics were okay, or if she just wanted to stir shit up. I see "transgendered" under the official lyrics, but hear "transgender" in the song. maybe the "ed" is just really soft, or I'm just hearing what I want to hear. I don't know
meanwhile, the various claims of it being an Express Yourself rip off has inspired me to listen to some Madonna, which I normally wouldn't have done

She..wants the people she claims to be standing up for to get mad at her? Lady Gaga has interesting, but ultimately futile, theories about making social justice work.

As for everything else, I honestly think she really believes that what she's saying/doing is not only acceptable, but good? Helpful? Awesome? Like, she has said and done some really abysmal shit over the past few years. From her outright cissexism to showing up in pictures with folks wearing blackface, I have a hard time being okay with Gaga. I still listen to some of her music and still find some of it to be quite valid beyond simply being catchy pop music. But in the end, I feel the same way about her as I do Kesha, in that she likes to talk, likes to think she's saying something wonderful, but is fact being a complete and total jackass, much like Kesha was when she said this:

Also, I think comparing Kesha to Lady Gaga is comparing apples and oranges. I've listened to a lot of Kesha's stuff and its really not thought provoking at all. Just really catchy pop music and shitty, generic lyrics. Lady Gaga's lyrics have a lot more depth, in my opinion, though I'm sure many of you will beg to differ. At least Gaga tries to put emotion and depth in her song writing. Though, she does some fuddy duddies that are about as deep as a kiddie pool ("Telephone" "Money Honey").

This is completely missing the point, or, at the very least, trying to create a new one that is, in fact, completely disconnected from any of the points previously made. No one has really compared them musically. The comparisons have been a few brief mentions of Gaga looking like Kesha in one shot, and me comparing their shared love of commentary that they think is flattering, helpful, or God only knows what, when it is in fact, horrible, damaging, and insulting.

Sorry for misinterpreting your post after just a quick glance. I certainly don't feel I "completely" missed the point to the degree of it being "completely disconnect[ed]." I'm sure there will be another long winded post following this one.
I, for one, enjoy the new Gaga song. Its not her best, but it is catchy.
