Greatest. So many good roles. His Beethoven was amazing, and he did a good Sid Vicious, too. Oh, and Zorg... bwahaha, so good.

Older than my dad, but would definitely not want him to be my dad :heybaby: All my friends know of my slight obsession with him. Is it sad that I knew who this thread was about before finishing the movies listed and didn't watch the video yet?

You must mean greatest screen performer who isn't actually a great actor but makes up for it with his wit and charm?

He rules. I was hoping to God this wasn't going to be a Johnny Depp fanboy/girl thread.

Nick just thinks that because it makes his life as a degenerate greens keeper more meaningful.
I don't know if Mr. Oldman is the best, I just know he's pretty amazing.

I don't get the hype with Depp. He's a good actor, but the only time he really blew me away was playing Hunter S. Thompson. I can think a dozen better actors off the top of my head. And Bill Murray has only played two characters in his whole career. He's a BRILLIANT comedian and improv artist and a great screen presence; he's not a particularly impressive actor.

Had Oldman not destroyed the part of Sirius in Harry Potter, I could probably give him greatest actor.

He's a BRILLIANT comedian and improv artist and a great screen presence; he's not a particularly impressive actor. this is nonsense. he's an actor that imbues each of his roles with what makes HIM special, but he's pretty much unlimited in scope and capacity. the only way your "two characters" thing is true is if you mean "lead" and "supporting." then yeah, he's only played two kinds of characters. best actor ever.

I love him in so many movies. The Professional was so good. The way he'd take those meds, crack his neck and go bananas. I have a serious love for him in The Fifth Element. He's best at being evil in character.

You're really, really serious? You really think Murray tops Brando, Streep, Ed Norton, Cain, Pacino, Deniro as far as pure chops go? Hokay then. I strongly disagree.

What is Ed Norton doing on that list? I was just pulling names out of my ass. I wouldn't really put him with Brando and Streep, but he's still damn good.

Someone who could be put on that list, in my opinion: Daniel Day-Lewis

Daniel Day Lewis for sure. He's kind of an absolute dick, but he's a dick who's dedicated to his craft, and a really great actor. He made Gangs of New York bearable, and mere mortals and average actors couldn't have done that.
Gary Oldman is totally up there. For JFK, State of Grace, and Chattahoochee alone, he's pretty amazing. Add in smaller roles in Murder in the First and taking into account his performance in Sid and Nancy (a terrible film in which he was awesome)? Great.

Hahahaha...You're talking about Bill Murry only playing two characters and then you come up with that list? You're fucking hilarious. I'm surprised you didn't put James Dean in there with all of his different characters he played. Hahaha. Yeah, cause Brando, Streep and Cain always play the same characters, huh? Pacino and Deniro get a bad wrap because they played characters with very strong personalities early in their careers, but dig deep enough and it's clear they have a huge range. Pacino in Angels in America and Deniro in say, Stardust for two of the more obvious examples. If you're going to be a smartass at least get yo shit straight, Jack. ;D You're really, really serious?
