Just saw it last night. Holy shit. Really, really, really good. It was so gorgeous to watch and they made a lot more out of a 30 page kids book than I ever thought they could. Anybody else go see it at midnight?

I just got back from seeing it.
So so good. The ending totally made me tear up.

Good god, I cried like a goddamn baby. Through most of the movie there was at least one tear rolling down my cheek. It was so weird to be able to be both a kid and and a parent at the same time, knowing all the things that Max was feeling and experiencing and watching them through the mommy glasses. Max Records is incredible. Most genuine portrayal of childhood I've ever seen.
Hands down in my top five movies I've ever seen.

Saw this last night. Definitely quite good. Reminds me of childhood amazingly well. I actually expected myself to cry during it, but I didn't. But, that doesn't really say much. I definitely need to watch it again. And, I agree, Karen O's addition to it was amazingly matched up.

I really want to see this but I have no idea when I will. I'm oddly hesitant about it.

Honestly, there's no real reason to be hesitant, and I say this after already having seen it. It's definitely enjoyable.

Never read the book. It does not appeal to me.

I just got done watching it. Kind of ambivalent.
Yes, it was visually pretty awesome. And yes, they did a lot with a little, but I'm still kind of meh about it all. I don't know whether I liked it or not. Dialogue was well written, camera work was really well done. A little iffy on the sound track. I guess plot was a little lacking? I dunno. I think I was expecting too be more emotionally attached to the story, but I really haven't read the book since I was a kid.

Kind of a whiny movie. I bet this movie sells tons of merchandise for Hot Topic.
And the fact that they changed it to Max biting his mom and running out into the night (instead of his room, which did the changing) was actually pretty disturbing.
But yeah, a good enough movie.

I just don't get how some of you guys haven't read it. I thought it was pretty much required reading in elementary school!

God, the ending made me cry. I thought it was so good I just wish that they'd put a little more into the plot.
I want to see it again, though.

Never read the book. It does not appeal to me. Yeah, I feel like I'm missing something because nobody will stop talking about it. My sister (who I've NEVER seen cry for a movie) told me she tears up just watching a certain trailer for it because it reminds her of something? I don't know, I don't get it.

I don't get the whole "plot" thing. the movie is based around a kid who runs away from home, lives with monsters, and then chooses to go home. there's not much plot.

Yeah. So many reviews I read before seeing it were whining about the lack of a plot and I was stupefied by that.

I wished I liked it as much as you guys did. Carol was just too crazy for me. And James Gandolfini, are you about to have a heart attack over there? Stop breathing so heavily.
I teared up a couple times. "Don't go. I could eat you up, I love you so." WAAAAAAAAAAH.
