completely agree. that became apparent to me when laguerta, who i thought was the only worthwhile female character on the show, was sleeping with pascal's husband behind her back while feigning interest in her personal life. didn't watch the show after that.
one of the reasons i liked the wire so much was that the spectrum of personality ran without color or gender. most of the best detectives were hard-working honest cops, but they all cheated on their spouses, women included; the cheating was symptomatic of the job. and strangely enough, the most morally upstanding citizen, the only one who didn't curse, went to church on Sunday with his mother, and didn't cheat on his lover(s), was Omar, the shotgun-carrying stick-up artist. every character was based on a real person.

And this week, good lord. The "be angry with me!" Rita thing, her being glad that he cared enough to assault a guy and treat her like property, commanding the dude to stay away from "his" wife while not talking to her about the situation at all... and then the writers going so far as to make her kiss the knuckles he had just used to hit the guy and claim ownership of her... fucking A, man. Casey needs to recommend some books to those fools. Good lord this part was ridiculous.

I think what they were trying to go for was that Rita was happy that Dexter had shown that much emotion in regards to their relationship instead of just being apathetic towards another man kissing his wife like he originally seemed to be. They just failed to write it out correctly.

HOLY SHIT FUCK. Did not expect them to actually go THROUGH with something like that. How fucking surreal. The second it started I was like "what the fuck, this is some weird dream sequence. What the fuck, when is he going to wake up?" I was hoping there would be some twist or something since it all was wrapping up so nicely but man, I guess I should have been careful what I wished for haha.
Time to wait nine fucking months. Ugh! Also, he is going to be in some HUGE shit now because he'll be a suspect.

I called that ending last week. It was the only reasonable thing the writers could do without ending the series or making Dexter get busted. Still, it was a LOT better than the last few episodes. Rousing good television.

yeah, I was wondering if she'd be like the opposite of harry. Like, the whole devil/angel on the shoulder sort of thing. Because she'd want him to try and be a good guy or whatever whereas harry's like "fuck it, just go kill people. you know you want to."
That scene was so damn surreal and creepy. Definitely the best ending since Season one, which was also pretty sad/surreal.

I'm hoping they end it next season, there's really not much more they can do now that he's stuck with the kids. There's no way for him to get around the fact that he's the reason for Rita's death, and he wouldn't want the same thing happening to the kids. They brought up the possibility of him retiring from the vigilante business, maybe the next season will be about his struggle to "quit". I bet it'll end with him giving it up and then discovering his kid likes to kill animals.

Well in the books, Cody and Astor end up being like him and he works on trying to 'train' them like Harry did with him. So there is a good possibility that may be what is going to happen. I can also see Deb finding out about him, like she does in the books.

Wow, Cody and Astor become killers? That sounds retarded. I hope they don't do that. Not human killers, but Dexter notices Cody killing animals and Astor helping him/covering for him. It's not as retarded as it sounds because like I said before, it's like what Harry did with Dexter.

They aren't related to Dexter, or "born in blood" or whatever, so I don't see why they would start doing that. Maybe it makes sense in the books, but in the context of the show I don't think that would work.

In the books it was because of Paul (though I don't remember if that was his name or not). He was a lot worse in the books. Childhood trauma = unstable children? Yeah, I can understand your point in it being stupid for the show, but it makes sense in the books. Harrison would work out, but they would have to skip 5-10 years for it to be something.

Dexter executive producer/showrunner Clyde Phillips is leaving the show to spend more time with his family.
After spending 9 months out of the year in LA working on Dexter for the past 4 years, Phillips is eager to be at home with his family on the east coast.
24 co-executive producer Chip Johannessen will be taking over for Phillips.
Hmmmm interesting.

Yeah, so you guys have made me obsessed with this show. I've now seen every episode up to this point. Wow. What a minfuck of a shocker of an ending. With the way things are going, there really isn't a whole lot more they can do with this show without making it stale. So while I really like this show, I also hope season 5 is the final season. As for Dexter being stuck with the kids, wouldn't he really only be stuck with Harrison? I don't think he ever adopted Cody and Astor, so wouldn't they go to their grandparents instead? Either way, it'll be interesting to see what they do next season.

I've decided I want Dexter to get busted and go to prison next season.
That's the only way I can really be satisfied with this show. Retirement would just seem to validate the rationale he has about killing bad people, and having him just go on killing or die would be a cop-out.
