This is the best game ever. I've been playing it on and off since elementary school (although I obviously didn't know what the fuck I was doing in elementary school). I have it saved on my computer, and every five months or so I will remember it is there and play it constantly for a few weeks and then make myself stop playing and forget about it for a while.
I used to always be the Sioux, but I switched over to the Zulus. My strategy generally consists of trying to get as many cities as I can started early on and getting the Great Library as soon as possible, because that shit is vital. Then I start stocking up on d00dz so I can wipe out whoever is unfortunate to be near me so I can expand a bit. Then I usually settle in and concentrate on getting my shit together. I put a lot into science, because science is awesome.
The last game I played I didn't realize I had set to bloodlust (no spaceships, the only way to win is to conquer everyone else) until I had discovered space flight and couldn't figure out why I couldn't build spaceships. So I got irritated, nuked the shit out of everyone and conquered them within two or three turns and retired.
If you don't play this game you should probably start.

I tried playing the first one when I was in high school, because Matt swore it was the best thing ever, but I got put off by the ancient, horrible graphicness of it, and gave up. I may have done myself a disservice.

The III is the best in my opinion, but the first has the dearest place in my heart for being my favourite game growing up.

I've never tried the Civ games, is II the best? I have no idea, I haven't played any of the others. I'm so emotionally attached to this one that I think anything else would just make me sad. Oh man, that boxset reminds me that I lost the poster of all the advancements and everything. Bogus. I also have no idea where the CD is, which means I don't get to laugh at the people in the high council.

The 4th one is cool in that it has religions, but I still prefer III.

I god. When I was in elementary school I discovered this game on my uncle's computer. I totally loved it and would play it all the time. I could never find it to buy it and then sorta forgot about it. I think I need it now.
