Yeah, I think the Cowboys will be fine.
Carolina, on the other hand plays Atlanta next week. I'm predicting us losing in a 44-7 slaughter.

I was thinking about all of the awesome games today and was stoked about football being back and then the highlights to the Carolina game came on and I got sad again. At least Baltimore won, I guess. I thought i'd be happier about that. :\

I love announcers that get excited about stuff. To hell with the Joe Bucks of the world who sound like they're announcing a bridge tournament.

Favorite NFL announcers: Gus Johnson, Kevin Harlan, Al Michaels, Ian Eagle, Kenny Albert, Mike Tirico, Thom Brennaman.
That's just on TV, though. There's a lot of great radio guys out there. The dudes for San Diego and Kansas City are good. I'm thinking of being a sportscaster so I try to know this stuff, haha.
funny that both CBS and FOX have their most dull announcers as their #1's.

Tirico is good, and Jaws is one of my favorite color guys. They need to just be a duo, because they can never find anyone good for the third spot. Al Michaels is good too, but he puts really weird inflections into his voice at odd intervals in the game. Like, I don't know how to describe it, but he'll sound really excited about something mundane or routine. I actually really miss Summerall/Madden. Probably the best, at least in the time I've been watching football.

aww Al Michaels is my favorite. And Daryl Johnston isnt bad. I prefer the in-studio guys like Boomer and whatnot. They are so mean to each other.

Summerall/Madden are the gold standard for football announce teams. I always considered Al Michaels one of the best announcers in football, but I know what you mean about him getting excited about something completely mundane. Gus Johnson is like that all the time, haha. Tirico was a lot better when he was calling college football. He seems to have relaxed a little bit ever since going to Monday Night Football but he's really good considering his two broadcast partners are worthless. Jim Nantz for CBS is good at calling the game but he's just very boring to listen to. Joe Buck just plain sucks at calling baseball and football. I've definitely heard worse though, i.e. Brent Gumbel.
and Kornheiser is great on PTI and on his radio show but in the booth he is fucking awful. Good lord.
Chris Berman used to be good but he just gets on my nerves nowadays. I remember when I watched NFL Primetime every Sunday like it was an event now I couldn't give a shit about it. Yet I watch NFL Countdown every Sunday morning for some reason.

Our biggest weakness has ALWAYS been the secondary. We just cannot seem to get our shit together in that department. But their running game is very important to them, and we're good against the run. If we can get in Manning's face enough and rattle him, we'll probably be okay. I really think it's a scheming issue as far as the secondary goes. Wade Phillips has always been one of those "If you press, you might give up a big play!"-types, and then he proceeds to call a 10-yard cushion and Michael Clayton and Antonio Bryant run past us, anyway. Sigh. Like, if we're going to get beat, can we at least go down trying to rip their heads off instead of sitting scared on our heels? Also, John Madden is the best announcer. He's just the best. I like Darryl Johnston and Troy Aikman the most, otherwise. I know everyone hates him, but I do like Cris Collinsworth just because he does know football and he doesn't pick favorites, douche or not.

Jesus Christ, Peter King is such a fucking idiot. In his top 15 ranking this morning, he put Chicago and San Diego (who haven't even fucking played yet) ahead of the Cowboys. "That wasn't Jay Cutler out there." Yes it fucking was, and he threw more picks than Romo threw touchdowns yesterday. Which was a lot. I mean, I know I'm a homer, but even if you look at it objectively, the Cowboys still played better than most of the teams on his list. Yeah, Minnesota won handily, but it was the Browns for crying out loud. And huge props to Aaron Rodgers last night, but the Pack looked medicore at best for most of the game.

That's why I don't read his shit, haha. I'm going to wait until next week before I rank the Cowboys at the top. The Bucs were predicted to be one of the bottom teams in the league considering all of the bad moves they made in the offseason. If they beat the Giants, then I'll put them at the top since I think the Giants are the best team in the NFC right now. Falcons could barely do anything against Miami's defense, so I'm not sure about them either and Minnesota looked good but it was against the damn Browns and I'm pretty sure they were trailing for awhile.
And lol @ his excuse for Jay Cutler.
EDIT: Brain Urlacher is out for the season.

yeah I agree the Pack looked a bit sorry (I was just excited last night, haha). I'm hoping they find a rhythm after some of the dudes were released 2 weeks ago and the changes made. Our schedule's first half is really easy so it may be awhile til any progress is actually evident.
Still proud of Aaron though.

It bears repeating (LOL PUN) just how fucking awful that fake punt call was last night. What the fucking shit was Lovie Smith thinking? Absolutely baffling.

Post by Ermine on Sept 14, 2009 16:04:27 GMT -5
I think I posted it before but did Lovie even call that? The announcers made it seem like the long snapper decided on it because he thought he could snap it before the last packer was off the field.
Not finding anything on NFL.com but wtf I hate their site.
