I'm really fucking bad at keeping up with music and tbh I mostly still listen to the same stuff I listened to five years ago, which is boring, SO please tell me what to check out and what I should be listening to other than True Trans Soul Rebel and No Cities to Love from the past year or so in punk/punk-rock/pop-punk and associated genres.

i love these threads because i usually find something new that is awesome haha. i've been in kind of a lull with punk lately, but there's definitely some solid stuff. I'll list a couple things I've been into lately and try to give a little variety, definitely let me know if there's any style you're looking for and I definitely am willing to share! Pissed Jeans - loud, heavy and noisy. the album Honeys is a pretty good starting point, but King of Jeans is also a good record. Sub Pop's own writeup describes them better than I can: www.subpop.com/artists/pissed_jeansFucked Up - the album Glass Boys from last year is pretty great. They're still pretty unique in the genre, but they are probably some of the best songwriters in the entire scene. Joyce Manor - Probably my favorite pop punk band but they're starting to move away from that a bit. Their last album Never Hungover Again was one of my favorite albums of last year, lots of energy, but they are starting to experiment with more of a 90's alt sound. Also, you can get through their entire discography within an hour and a half, they haven't made an album longer than 20 minutes yet. I Am The Avalanche - Just released Wolverines last year and it is a fantastic punk rock record. Not a lot of frills, but Vinnie Caruana is a pretty damn good lyricist dating all the way back to The Movielife. Make Do and Mend - Just released a new album Don't Be Long, they kinda play music in a similar vein as Hot Water Music. Fireworks - Oh, Common Life and Gospel are both worth checking out, this band has really come into their own. Super catchy and vibrant, but the lyrics are pretty great and deal with some more mature topics. the Pitchfork review for the new album is a good read if you wanna check that before listening: pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/19196-fireworks-oh-common-life/

Bayside's "Cult" from last year is pretty great.

also remembered a few smaller bands. Holy Fever is pretty awesome, they're a bit more on the rock n roll side of things and only have 6 songs total. Rat's Feet Over Broken Glass is a sick song though.
Brain F≠ is also pretty cool, dueling male and female vocals with the instruments being much more chaotic. Their most recent album Empty Set from last year is probably the most accessible album since it has a bit more structure, but their first one Sleep Rough is definitely worth a listen as well.

Their self titled may very well be my favorite punk album of all time. It's not too aggressive but not too pop-punk (think Jawbreaker-esque) and just relentlessly catchy.

Derailed is my fucking jam forever. I have probably listened to that album about 100+ times at this point and I never get sick of it.

also, emo revival, but not necessarily punk. the world is a beautiful place..., dads, pity sex, into it. over it., algernon cadewallader, glocca morra, etc are all awesome.
edit: oh fuck, and title fight is also awesome and has had a constant sense of progression. floral green is definitely their best, hyperview gets pretty shoegazey but is cool.

Chumped! They're an awesome woman-fronted pop-punk band. They have a self-titled EP and a full-length (Teenage Retirement), which is one of the best pop-punk albums I've heard in a while.

The Holy Mess and Banner Pilot were my two favorite pop-punk records last year. I also back the Fucked Up rec.

Can't believe I forgot the Menzingers who are easily one of the most consistent punk bands of the last 5 years. I would definitely check out Chamberlain Waits or On The Impossible Past. Chamberlain is a bit faster and energetic, which is closer to their earlier stuff. On The Impossible Past introduces a bit more melody and some less punk song structures, which is where they're kind of heading with their most recent album. Great band though.

I have all of these albums queued up now but I really like Brain F≠, and holy hell I have had Bayside's Cult on repeat for weeks since you recommended it, Tommy.
Thanks guys, it's good to have some new music lined up. In return, I saw Joanna Gruesome lately and they were great, so go check them out.
