I didn't like the new Larry Arms at first but it grew on me.

Sounds like what I'd imagine an "acoustic" Gaslight Anthem album to sound like.

I've been on a new music binge over the past few days and I'm really into The Hotelier's new record. I'm usually not into this type of music, but this is a pretty solid, versatile record. thehotelyear.bandcamp.com/

Been hearing good things about that album, Corey. Will have to check it out. Saw these dudes in my friend's living room last night and they just released a new album. Grungy punk with a good bit of rock n roll and vocals that kind of remind me of American Nightmare. pushups.bandcamp.com/

New Banner Pilot and Menzingers records are literally the only thing I listen to anymore.
Excited for a new Copeland record and for new Gaslight Anthem to drop.

I heard a couple songs off the new La Dispute record and didn't completely hate them, which is a step above what I thought of this band previously. I've seen it get great reviews everywhere, so I guess I'll listen to the new one with an open mind.

huh... didn't even know La Dispute had an album out this year. I can't even remember listening to their last album, unless it was Wildlife? idk. New Braid is streaming on NPR. Only about three songs in, so I don't know how I feel about it, but I've definitely enjoyed all three songs so far. I really like that they're working with Topshelf Records, I've always really enjoyed that lable. www.npr.org/2014/06/29/324887838/first-listen-braid-no-coastAlso, this shit is finally out: if you even try to approach this album seriously, you will absolutely fucking hate it. Riff is the fucking man though (see How To Be the Man) and it's kind of intriguing to watch him and figure out if he's really for real or if he's just skewering rap. he's like all of the most ridiculous parts of rap turned up to 11 and I love it either way.

I'm giving it a good listen right now, but I've been super impressed with the first half of the album so far. 3/4 of Orchid is in it! It basically sounds like a new Orchid album. It's already a contender for my top 5 albums of the year. Took me by surprise, since I haven't really listened to anything screamo in a long time and didn't think I'd be that interested.

yeahhhhh, pretty sure the new DFA1979 is going to contend for my album of the year. absolutely incredible album. White is Red almost seemed out of place the first time, but it's my favorite song right now. welcome back DFA.

Really? I thought it was disappointing and sounded like they're trying to blend their sound with The Black Keys' sound. I dunno, it just doesn't have that punch I was hoping for. I'll give it a few more listens.

Eh, I can kinda see where you're coming from, but I'd disagree. This album is definitely more polished and produced a bit better than the first one, but I still think this is DFA to the core.
I'm also probably in the minority on this, but I think it's just as good as YAWIAM. I keep on finding new little parts that I love and I don't really have a complaint about any song on the record. I've had to stop myself from singing along to Always On and Right On, Frankenstein! at work the last two days.

DFA is great. A bit more melodic than You're a Woman... but I have no idea where you're getting those Black Keys comparisons, Aaron.

Anyone listened to the new Aphex Twin yet? I threw it on while I was working and I've been super into it. It's not nearly as weird as early AT shit, but it's still got that little weird vibe and you can tell he put a lot of care into crafting this album.
