I've been working on this project for the past month where I get people to recommend me a bunch of albums I haven't heard, then listen to one a day for 30 days. It's been a blast, and I've listened to a huge range of new and old music that I never would have checked out otherwise. I definitely recommend trying it!
My top five albums for September have been:
Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter Miles Davis - Kind of Blue The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die - Whenever, If Ever Signs and Signifiers - JD McPherson Foe - Bad Dream Hotline
This month I'm doing the same, but with female-fronted bands only. If you have any recommendations, let me know!

I should do something like this. Seeing how I'm listening to music 80% of the time at work.

I'll definitely do something like this. Actually kinda started it last night/today with Little Green Cars - Absolute Zero.

are you doing only bands fronted by ladies or lady musicians in general? That is to say, if I were to recommend Mary Lou Williams, a jazz pianist and composer, who does not sing, would you consider that fair game. Also I recommend Peggy Lee - Is That All There Is?
I recently was house-sitting for a family friend. She is in her 80s. She has a grand piano. I haven't had a real live piano since I moved out of my parent's house. I was rummaging through the piano bench thinking, the only thing I really want is clair de lune. Not only did I fine clair de lune, but I found "Is That all There Is" too. I couldn't believe my lucky stars wowee
I will come back when I'm a little more sober.

Ooh, thanks! Yeah I'm taking musicians too, I spent this morning listening to Zoe Keating, a cellist, which was really lovely! music.zoekeating.com/album/one-cello-x-16-natoma I'll add Peggy Lee, chuck a Mary Lou Williams album name at me and I'll add that too

Black Christ Of The Andes
I got excited when you said you were doing woman musicians, because I felt I've been listening to a lot of them lately. I went through my last.fm to pin down specifics and I realized it's all Liza Minnelli and Donna Summer and stuff like that. And Grace Jones. One day I listened to Nightclubbing 4 times in a row. That might not be a lot for some people, but I never do that. I will also recommend Gina X Performance - Nice Mover. Late 70s synthpop, with lyrics touching on themes of gender and sexuality.

I think I mentioned a few to you on twitter Siobhan, but I'll throw some things in here for ease.
Windhand - Soma Jessie Ware - Devotion Zola Jesus - Versions (anything by her is great, but these reworkings are intense and lovely and sad and good) London Grammar - If You Wait Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs

Belly - Star The Ettes -Look at Life Again So Soon Lindi Ortega - Little Red Boots Sarah Jarosz- Song Up in Her Head Psapp - The Only Thing I Ever Wanted Shawn Colvin - A Few Small Repairs
I have a bunch of other recommendations, but I feel like they are probably ladies that you're already familiar with (e.g., Janelle Monae, Lykke Li, Kate Bush). And a couple of these I am sure you've probably already heard, but of all the albums in my music collection, they have pretty strong strong positive sense/memory associations for me, so I figured what the hell. Anyway, hopefully at least one of these will be new to you!
