Training camp started today for most teams which means that the season is just around the corner. Anyone else excited for the season to start? I've spend most of the off-season focusing on hockey but I'm definitely excited to start watching football again, too. I'm cautiously optimistic about the Panthers this year because we're going to have a great offense but our defense will probably be terrible yet again.
What expectations do you have for your team this year? Are you glad that there is no lockout bullshit like last season?

Same as every year for me: optimistic, but fully prepared to have my spirit crushed by December. Maybe we can fly under the radar in the division this year; people will be focusing on Washington (RGIII) and New York. I'm also pretty excited to see what Claiborne can do in the secondary.

The one NFL preview site I read said that they would pick Dallas to go to the playoffs if it wasn't for the fact that something always seems to go wrong for them. I guess that was exemplified with this Dez Bryant fiasco.

Ha, I guess you could count having a shitty secondary and offensive line as "something going wrong."

I wonder how much longer Mike Wallace is going to hold out. I've heard some rumors that he might be traded because the Steelers can't come to a long-term agreement with him. They already signed Antonio Brown to a five-year deal worth $42.5 mil. and they apparently offered Wallace a similar contract and he felt "offended." The Brown contract is pretty generous because I would say that Wallace is worth around that much, but Brown could end up being the better player in another couple years.

I'm eager to see what's up with the league QBs...
What will Manning be able to do in Denver? Is RG3 gonna tear it up? Will Brees let the crazy off-season fiasco his team went through throw him off? Will Vick bounce back? How about Rivers? Is there a sophomore clump in Cam Newton's future?
I haven't been keeping up with the day-to-day, but these a more questions were in my head over the off-season. The QB position seems a bit unknown across a variety of teams. A bit exciting to have all these expectations muddled.

You know who I think might be really good this season? The Bills. They got off to a really good start last season but were derailed by injuries. Their offense was pretty explosive for the first half of last season and they really boosted their pass rush by getting Mark Anderson and Mario Williams. They don't have much depth, though so this prediction wont mean much if an injury occurs.

Ya, they looked fierce last season, then it all unraveled about a third of the way through. Fitzpatrick didn't look half-bad when things were going well, but he's still not the most consistent guy. If Jackson and Spiller can keep carrying a good load and keep the rush off him, he could have quite the year.

Fitzpatrick is a pretty good QB but he's woefully inaccurate on deep passes. Jackson and Spiller being there helps him not have to go deep as much, though. Spiller was actually really effective when the Bills used him as a wide-out last season and I'm excited to see what their offense can do. The biggest problem with the Bills is that all of their best players are coming off tough injuries and that could set them back. Still, with the Jets not looking as strong and the Dolphins rebuilding I think they can make some noise.

Andrew Luck was really impressive in his debut today, even if it was against the Rams. The Colts GM tweeted "the legend has begun" after his first pass/TD. Ha.

Yeah, hopefully he has long term injury problems.
So tired of having shit like this in the division. Stupid Texans.

My fantasy team relies on the late pick prowess of MDJ and P. Manning. Hopefully snagging them later than they should have gone talent-wise will prove quite the success.

Would anyone be interested in joining a pick 'em league?

Sure. I'm terrible at those, but sure.
Also, let's hope that MJD's return makes my second round pick not look foolish.

I submitted something to them, but it didn't make the cut. Which I'm okay with, because what did get published was fucking hilarious and way better than what I wrote.

Good morning NFL! Initial thoughts from the early games: - RG3 is a smart player. He's been playing well and athletic, but every time he gets in a tricky situation, he makes a good decision, unlike Michael Vick. I've been impressed. - MJD is back! Man, he hasn't missed a step. If he wasn't sharing carries, he'd be back to form already! - This is the first season my dad's long standing league has allowed a TE in the flex position. My dad drafted Gornkowski and Hernandez. Life is looking good for him. - Mark Sanchez is earning a bit of breathing room. I saw some highlights and he isn't even playing that well, but when things are working, you're on easy street. - Stafford got taken 1st round in my league (16 man). Oops? *obligatory bad judgment after one bad game * - Miami looked solid for a whole 3 minutes. Good job Miami! You can lose knowing you had that.

Bah, stupid Eagles avoiding an epic choke job. They tried pretty goddamn hard to lose that one, though. You have LeSean McCoy and you throw it 56 times against CLEVELAND? I hope that kind of awful decision making carries over to the rest of the season.
Also, holy shit there have been a lot of interceptions today. I counted at least 23 in the early games.

That Saints-Redskins game was fun to watch, mostly because of RGIII. Watching him stretch out plays and improvise with his scrambling skills is pretty entertaining. I'm not sure how you can defend that unless you have an incredible pass rush.
Meanwhile the Panthers had only 10 goddamn rushing yards against Tampa Bay. Going to be a long fucking season.

Looks like we're warming up for a typical Cowboys season: just enough wins against good teams to build up hope, then lose horribly to some bad teams.

For what it's worth, Seattle is a tough team to play on the road and the Pats lost to the Cardinals AT HOME today. It's hard to get a gauge on any team right now since we're only two weeks into the year.
Awesome win for the Panthers. Loved seeing us mix it up in the run game so well after being shut down against the Bucs last week.
PS: Eat shit, Saints.

Last week on ESPN they said the Cowboys are 6-0 when Murray has 20 or more carries. Apparently Garrett wasn't listening.
It's just hard not to get pessimistic when we have such a tough schedule the rest of the year. We have the Ravens, Saints, Panthers, Bengals, Steelers, and Bears, not to mention the Bucs, who looked like pushovers before the season started but who now look like a force to be reckoned with.

Yeah, but don't you think that most of the other 1-1 teams aren't thinking the same thing when they look at their schedule? Just about every team you listed has their share of problems and are beatable right now. I don't think anyone should hit the panic button until around Week 4 at the earliest.

0 - 3 is the traditional death knell. There's been, like, less than 5 teams who have started with that record and made the playoffs.
Good for your Panthers. They looked solid from the little I got to see.
I didn't see any of the New England game. Is the Cardinals defense just that fierce?
