There's been some damn good games on this weekend. Let's discuss them. TCU-Baylor last night was my favorite of them, though. Boise-Georgia is turning out to be a pretty fun contest too.
I'm trying to follow college football more seriously this year but I've got a lot of other commitments so I don't think it'll happen. I did cover my school's game today, though. We pounded Apprentice School 42-3. Yay.

Tigers won! I know there's a Ducks fan on the board but I didn't watch the game so even if I was going to gloat, I have nothing to do gloat over.

I've always been confused as to why the big schools always get to stomp on little ones the first week. Is it because they don't get a pre-season? Or is it to help keep them from ruining an undefeated season right out of the gate? Anyways, Arizona won and Oregon lost, so the year is off to a good start

Colorado State beat New Mexico which was shocking to pretty much everyone up here because our team is the shittiest team ever. Longhorns crushed Rice today which wasn't surprising in the least. Really curious to see how CU Boulder does in the PAC 12 and to see what Texas A&M does in regards to their hissy fit about leaving the Big 12.
Edit: Hawaii beat CU 34-17. Cal is gonna crush them next week.

Nick, it's for two reasons: 1) lack of a pre-season 2) Boosters like to see big wins, which helps drive fundraisers. These games are almost always scheduled at home, so you can bring prospective donors in to drive contributions to your school while they watch a borderline high school team get shellacked.
I went to UCLA - UH yesterday with my mom (She's a UCLA alum) and was glad to have family gloating rights this year. Last year they kicked the crap out of us, and knocked out our 1 and 2 quarterbacks for the year. Our sixth year senior QB looked great. ha. Minor victory: I also managed to make it through the entire game without our alumni foundation finding me, and asking me for money. They are relentless, and anytime I can make it to a UH event without them noticing (Look at that fat old guy! He doesn't go here!) is a miracle.
I was then pissed that we did not get Tennessee - Montana on TV here. They showed Vandy - Elon, but not that. Lose. I wish there was an NFL Sunday Ticket for college football - where you could just on demand any live game. I would pay a years salary for this service.
Also, Boo LSU winning, your fans are so obnoxious. We went out to eat afterwards and all the Coonasses in the city were out for the "big game." Ugh. Good to see Boise State win, though.
I am so excited college football is back. This and English football are probably tied for my two favorite sports, and any Saturday I get to just sit down at 6am and start watching ~16-18 hours of these two sports together is the best ever. (Sadly, that was not this Saturday.)

I hate our fans too, living on campus for 3 football seasons was pretty horrible.

I know they have ESPN game plan which lets you see a lot of games and I usually stream one or two on ESPN3.com or whatever it's called now. I always like watching the mid-major conferences for some reason and like it when one of those schools gives the big names a run for their money like Utah State did to Auburn yesterday.
Also, Navy and UVA won! Granted, they were against FCS schools but I don't take any UVA wins for granted these days.

ESPN3 is a godsend. Between obscure college games and Spanish football, it normally brings the goods. I had never heard of Game Plan, I'll have to check that out.
Tim, I can't imagine. The worst time I've ever had at a bar was a piano bar where some LSU guys pooled their money and had the guy play the fight song for an hour. It was so obnoxious. I guess, in general, between LSU, A&M, UT and OU Houston is generally overrun with obnoxious college football fans. There are even a lot of Nebraska fan here for some reason. Boo.
The only really bad thing is a lot of times they show these games instead of UH games which always rubs me the wrong way.

I've been to Nebraska a few times and the football fans there are super defensive and obnoxious as fuck. My dad's a Colorado alum and his friends there that we visited would always give him shit and it was pretty annoying, but I'm sort of a Colorado fan so that might be why.
I have strange college intelligences.

My brother had his wedding on Saturday so I didn't get to watch it. My boyfriend and I snuck off a couple times during the reception to listen to the radio broadcast, but faaaaaack. We have so much trouble with SEC teams. Looking forward to going to some games this season, though.

2-0 and we won our first Empire 8 game! Should not have been as close as it was, though because we dominated them but had 2 missed field goals and a turnover in the red zone. Defense played amazing again at least. I also got to see a defensive lineman pick off a pass which is always fun.

I'm excited to see our 13th year Senior QB back. Number one in FBS passing yards! UH is so much fun to watch. They can't stop anyone, but they can throw an unlimited amount of yards. They let North Freaking Texas put up 23 points. Fantastic.
I'm really excited to see UH play SMU later in the year. They should just not name any running backs. Go all out.
Tennessee looked real good, too. So it was smiles all around in the household.
Sad update: we now officially own two Coogs and Vols helmets. Got the Vols ones last year, got the UH ones this year. Just to wear around the house. Dork. Fest.

I'm not much for college ball or bandwagons, but what can't Andrew Luck do? If you're taking your star QB, double reversing him into passing routes, and watching him catch one-handers down the sideline, you're probably watching a rare talent. NOTE: This is one of the only plays I've actually seen from Mr Hype, but DAMN!

Houston is looking GREAT. If we don't jump to a BCS conference in all this mess I'm going to kill everyone and then myself.

LaMichael James got hurt pretty good last week, but our other runningback really carried his weight (lol) tonight against ASU. Thomas got shook up pretty good, too, but we still won with the white boy throwing the ball. Two interceptions in the endzone! Go Ducks.
The best part however was the post-game field interview with Chip Kelly when he interrupted the reporter to tell some overzealous bro to shut up. It was awesome.

Last night was epic/awesome. We went to the UH/Rice game and I don't recall ever being so drenched in my life. I'll probably also never see a quarterback throw 9 touchdowns in a game, either.
It's also funny that Case Keenum was playing at UH when I was still a student. Way to go, old man, you're the best!

I was kind of bummed to see A&M lose, and Texas is terrible to watch. TERRIBLE.
This weekend I'm hoping to see everyone ahead of UH lose in some way. Maybe a tie or two, as well.
