I think Amy and Rory have plenty left to give, but I agree that there's a certain scope it must be done in from here on out. While their storyline feels at a relaxed point, they are still a major part of both the Doctor's and River's lives, and seeing them occasionally just from that capacity seems a good direction to take.

Such a strange show. I miss Eccleston. Maybe if I were spacing episodes out by weeks and series out by months I wouldn't miss him so much, but as it is, I just miss him. Which isn't a knock on Tennant at all. There's just something about Eccleston I love so much. i love 9 so much oh gooood i was so hesitant to start season 2 because i was so attached to him. but i love all three of the doctors now<333 I love the idea of River just dropping in to visit Amy and Rory to hang out and doing a comparing of notes on where they are in their own timelines. I don't know why it never occured to me before that it would probably happen, but it was a sweet moment. ugh i just love river so much. and it was so odd to me that it was just like..."hey your daughter grows up to murder me and also we did the sex in prison so say goodbye to your baby l0l" and they were just like "okay!" no no that is not okay!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15730665Innnteresting. So possibly a whole new Doctor for that one film? Or a Doctor-lite film just set in the Doctor Who universe? That would be pretty cool.

Yeah me too. Could potentially be awful. It's planned for in three years time. That means it'll have to work with what's already happened and they can't change anything up for three years, OR they'll do some JJ Abrams change-the-whole-universe stuff and it won't work as well. But then if it's cool and cinematic it'd be good. Torchwood have to be involved.
I am also conflicted.

This sounds like a kinda dreadful idea that I will totally go see anyway, and then be sad about it.

Hoping for the best with this. I think they'd aim to do something that tackles the origins of Who; from the sound of it, they want it to fit into the mythology without just repeating it. Sounds like quite the undertaking.

I don't think I'd watch a movie with an American Doctor. I'd just pretend it wasn't happening. It's such a UK thing that we just don't need it.

They would never in a million years cast an American Who. I'm probably going to massively regret saying this now, but I'm so sure. It's such a British thing. Well, specifically, a Welsh thing, now. I really really would love to see a Welsh actor take the part.
I don't understand why anyone would vote for Johnny Depp to play Doctor Who. Does not compute.

Yeah, I really don't see them picking an American. Which is good. An American Doctor would be so fucking WRONG. Painfully so.

Disregarding the awkwardness that was adding Morgan Freeman and Johnny Depp to the "Who" candidate list, those are just really poor choices all around. Clive Owen? Really?
If you want a star, gimme a middle-age Who in the form of Gary Oldman or Hugh Laurie, please.

Oh god Hugh Laurie would probably be really good actually. It's kind of been tradition with recent Doctor Who to use relatively unknown actors, so I think all the media speculation is a little over the top. It's fun to imagine all these A-list actors running around with a sonic screwdriver though

Yeah, I think that's what makes it weird, actually. When I think of big-name actors, it can be difficult to really get into the character in a natural way. I've never had that problem with the Doctor because I've never been familiar with any of the actors playing him. Not before knowing they played the Doctor, anyway (eg I'm pretty sure I saw David Tennant in Harry Potter before I started watching the show, but I still thought of him as "that guy from Doctor Who"). I feel like Christopher Eccleston's familiar, but not enough that I thought of the actor first and his role second. I'd rather not have the adjustment period of "well this is [dude] playing the Doctor, I wonder if he does it any good." I just want to watch it and make that decision afterward, haha.
