Baaaaaaacked. I was listening to IOTKT at work the other day. I have no idea what my favorite record is. Red Medicine, maybe? Or Repeater. Probably one of those two. Favorite songs are "Turnover," "Public Witness Program," "Target," "Downed City," "Epic Problem," and "Do You Like Me?"
Also, it's probably not mentioned enough that they have one of the best rhythm sections of all time.
I love Fugazi so much, no one here seems to understand my love for Fugazi - it's sad. However it makes me so happy that Guy and Efrim (from GY!BE/ASMZ) are now working together too [on the Vic Chesnutt stuff coming out through CST]. Awesomeness.
So so so tight, awesome syncopation, great rythmns. This band are just awesome.
Favourite record is probably either End Hits or Repeater.

End Hits may actually be my favorite Fugazi album. Five Corporations is probably their most intense song, and then you have Arpeggiator, the best instrumental, and Place Position and F/D which are two of my favorites.

I owned 13 Songs for over a year and the only song I really cared about was "Waiting Room." But then I bought Repeater on a whim and everything changed. Now I love 13 Songs a lot more, but it didn't work as an entry point for me at all.
Ahhh, so I simply started in the wrong place. Gotcha.
Well, I'm sure it's different for everyone. It's very possible you'll hear Repeater and still not be feeling it. I mean, whatever.
Fave songs are probably Blueprint, Place Position, Furniture, Last Chance For a Slow Dance, Epic Problem, Exit Only, Promises...I could go on forever. I have a really crappy "KYEO" tattoo because I found that song's lyrics to be so applicable and relevant to everything, and they also sum up the band for me.
The only songs you didn't mention that I count among my favorites are Shut the Door and Target.
Target is in my top 10 Fugazi songs, and the live version of Shut The Door (on the Instrument DVD, from the Olympia show in '95 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=apuLs_ayKRM) is fucking insane. The flyer for that show is still posted backstage at the Capitol Theater.

I rented Instrument from netflix about 4 years ago, and I remember freaking the fuck out when they drive through where I lived in Mississippi. The Isle of Capri Casino is in there I think, just before when they stay in the hotel with no showerhead.

It so weird how this band seems to take time to click with people. I reallly, reallly, really just didn't like them at all when I first heard them. I wrote it off as generic and just went away. Then I heard Repeater, and went out and got The Argument and just fell in love. Seriously one of the best bands ever. My brother use to just not like them either, and then like last year he comes up to me and goes "You know, I really like Fugazi now. It doesn't make sense, but they fucking rule."
It really baffles me. This is one of the greatest bands of all time, and it seems to take everyone time to get into them. They are above my mental comprehension.
You can not infract that which is...UNINFRACABLE. #3.
Where should a first-time listener start with this band? The only song I've heard is Blueprint and I really like it, so was thinking of just picking up Repeater - good starting point, or does it even matter?
