Starting to get back into hip hop hard after taking a good, long break. It's been Only Built For Cuban Linx I & II, Shad, and Big L for the past few days. The new Childish Gambino is pretty hit or miss, but the songs with RZA and Bun B are fucking slick.

Cooked dinner listening to Spank Rock last night, then introduced the rock n roll hipster BF to 2 Live Crew. Then educated him on their history with the Supreme Court using annotations from my abandoned honors thesis.

The rest is empty with no brain, but the clever nerd/The best emcee with no chain ya ever heard!”
DOOM fucking rules. easily one of my favorite rapper/producers of all time. i love that Special Herbs & Spices series too, great stuff to throw on at work and not get too distracted. it's almost overwhelming how much material he has put out over the years.
College Dropout came out 10 years ago yesterday. whoa.

so I just realized that the dude Mr. Fantastik who is on Rapp Snitch Knishes with Doom has only ever done like one other verse on the King Geedorah album, which is fucking AWESOME. Dude is a ghost other than that, just left us with two great verses and that was it. rumors are he's just some random dude that Doom knew who could flow, but never got into the music business. kinda disappointing we'll never see anything from him again.
listening to some Kanye again... the horns on Touch the Sky seriously get me so pumped, especially when they come in right at the end of each verse. say what you want about the dude, but he is one of the best producers.

Dave, I don't know where you mentioned it, but I too think NehruvianDOOM is solid.

Yeahhhh buddy! It isn't my favorite Doom collab ever, Nehru still has a lot of room to grow and make his own voice, but I was pretty impressed with him throughout. I was a little disappointed to hear one or two recycled beats from Doom, but there is also not a whole lot of people that would recognize that and the beats are still good, so whatever haha. My Doom obsession is reaching new heights lately, I really want a new solo album from the man himself.

think i'm just going to go all Doom collabs today. Madvillain, JJ DOOM, DANGERDOOM, Monsta Island Czars and KMD... this dude's career has just been ridiculous.
now where the fuck is the Doom/Ghostface album???

Revisiting Yeezus after a long time, still have kind of the same opinion. Sonically one of the most interesting records ever in any genre of music, not very good at all as a rap record. It's kind of post rap even, in that a lot of the vocals are long samples? That fucking thing at the end of New Slaves with guitars and the vocoder though, fuuuck yeaaaah

Awful in this bitch, can't beat us, can't join us
Father is fucking awesome. I honestly haven't delved into I'm A Piece of Shit as much just because I really dig Young Hot Ebony and Who's Gonna Get Fucked First? I haven't explored them too much, but I like what I have heard out of Slug Christ and Tommy Genesis.
I also just found someone kind of in their vein with OG Swaggerdick. His name is ridiculous, but i thought his album Game Boy Colored was good.
Eagerly awaiting the new Freddie Gibbs/Madlib and Danny Brown albums.

I'm a Piece of Shit is tight but I am stuck on those two as well (listening to Young Hot Ebony right now ha). He played a show here recently but I wasn't quite as into him (and had a birthday party to be at) so I missed it, I've been kicking myself hard for that. But afterwards there was this crazy dance party at a Chinese restaurant that a couple Atlanta DJs with their crew spun at, and that shit was fucking crazy.
Definitely check out Archibald Slim! He kinda seems like a more... conventional(?) rapper than the rest of the Awful crew, like he kinda hits like Big Boi or something, but he's fucking great.
Been checking out the other Black Hippy dudes today too cause I'm fucking obsessed with Kendrick. Oxymoron blew me away, especially "Collard Greens", that fucking beat! Ab-Soul sounds fucking great too, Jay Rock I haven't quite gotten that much into but he does sound pretty good; his verse on "Money Trees" has me believing that he's gotta have some fire shit too.
I didn't hardly listen to rap for years so I'm kind of obsessed right now, got a looooot of catching up to do!

I will definitely have to check him out!
Regarding Black Hippy... Kendrick is the best out of the Black Hippy dudes, but they are also the best hip hop crew right now. Q has been progressively getting better and I think his next album is gonna crush it out of the park. That Collard Greens beat tho... Easily one of my favorite beats ever. Soulo is a weird motherfucker in some of his beliefs, but These Days and Control Sysyem are both awesome. Jay Rock was kinda meh for a while and most of his good songs had other BH members, but 90059 was a solid project and his features have been good. I neeeeeeeed the long-rumored Black Hippy album.

new Danny Brown two weeks from tomorrow! The new songs are tight. Based on the new songs out there already , I think signing to Warp was a damn good move for him. The bear on Rolling Stone is weird, but he just makes it work
