Production doesn't start till February, so probably late next summer. The good news is that the second season will have 13 episodes.

and they're gonna introduce Michonne, which is awesome. although I hope what happens to her in the books doesn't happen in the show. I don't want to see that.

Spoiler tag that shit, Tax. This episode was pretty damn good. Poor Jim. That was totally heartbreaking. He made the right decision, though.
Next week looks epic. I wonder how much background they're going to give about the outbreak.
Also, did you hear "Adagio In D Minor" during the little driving montage? That song has been getting around lately.

Am I the only one who has heard of a show having only 6 episodes for a season (other than mini series) when it wasn't being canceled? That really bums me out.

It's probably really expensive to produce and they didn't want to order a full season unless they knew it was gonna be huge.

the channel was worried by it. first seasons of big-risk shows like Twin Peaks are often mad shorter than standard seasons.

They're advertising a contest to play a zombie in an episode in the second season so...? My brother and I spent most of the Amy scenes this week telling each other how merciless we would be should the other be in the same position. "I'm sorry but I would not carry your body into the grave myself." "I wouldn't even bury you. I'd burn you." "Yeah, and I wouldn't have waited until you came back either." "I wouldn't even have waited until you were dead. Bullet to the head as soon as you were bit." "Why waste bullets? I'd just use a bat. Though your head is big, might take a few dozen swings." "I probably would have just left you for dead when the outbreak started."

Eastbound and Down only had 6 episodes in its first season, as well. But then the second only had 7, so yeah.
I spent most of today reading the first 70 issues because I was sick. godDAMN, that was time well spent.

Hmm. Interesting development. I feel like the dialogue has been one of the weak points in the show, so maybe this will shake things up a bit. Then again, I kind of agree with the article's writer that a show like this that is an adaptation needs a cohesive group of writers to make sure it stays on point. I dunno, we'll just have to wait and see.

another point about this is that one of the writers was the writer of the comic. I wonder if he's included.

Finally watched the first episode. Show is rather intense and moving. Reminds me of The Road, but less bleak and with more zombies.

I think I keep having such high expectations for this show because the first episode was perfect, and then the rest have never really hit how good it was. This episode was the closest to that one though. I liked the happy parts, the interpersonal conflicts still seem kinda stupid and petty in some cases, but the CDC guy was awesome.

I totally fucking forgot about the grenade. The timing of it was a bit convenient, but it was a good solution and I never saw it coming.
Fuck you Shane. I hope you die.
I don't know for sure, but I think the fact that they showed how Rick was saved in the hospital is a pretty big departure from the comic.
That secret whisper is going to drive me nuts. My theory? The blood tests showed someone was infected.
Nitpick: How did none of the windows on their cars even crack when that MASSIVE explosion went off?

First half seemed a lot more...real(?) than the rest.
I'm bitter that Andrea survived over Jacqui. At least I didn't have to see Dale go. He's probably my favorite character besides Rick.
Opening sequence was the best one yet and probably my favorite moment in the series.

they never show anything at the hospital other than Rick leaving, so the added hospital scene really didn't do anything more than add a bit more backstory to the Shane/Lori/Rick triangle. I was actually really curious as to how he stayed alive, so it's nice to actually know.
The whisper thing is going to bug me so much. There's so many things that it could be and I just want to know, boo. Your idea is one, but I can think of about two other things that it definitely could be.
EDIT: and there's one in your other post, haha. the other is that the Dr. might have seen Shane go after Lori on the cameras. I'm bitter that Andrea survived over Jacqui. At least I didn't have to see Dale go. He's probably my favorite character besides Rick.
Opening sequence was the best one yet and probably my favorite moment in the series. You'll come around on Andrea later. Very good first season, next season is going to be interesting. I really want to know what direction they're going to take this in now!

I didn't get to see the new episode because AMC isn't free anymore but I totally fucking forgot about the grenade. The timing of it was a bit convenient, but it was a good solution and I never saw it coming. I MADE A MENTAL NOTE AT THE END OF THE EPISODE: "Remember that damned grenade." Glad I was right!

I hope the firing of all the writers makes for a better second season. I think I had my expectations too high because of AMC's previous shows. something about the acting and dialogue just seems off in a lot of places. it's still pretty good though

So, I caved and started downloading the comics. I'm up through issue #36. DON'T CLICK THE SPOILER BUTTON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT (POSSIBLE) FUTURE PLOT POINTS. I'm very surprised at how little of the main story has been included in the show so far. Aside from the attack on their camp and Amy's death, pretty much everything after the first episode is different. That's makes it wide open in terms of where they go in the second season. I don't see how they could leave out the prison, but will they include Herschel's farm/family, or throw in some new characters? I'm not sure how Michonne would fit into the show; she might be a bit too over-the-top. I don't know. I don't feel like the series has been "spoiled," per se, because they've changed so much that there's no guarantee of how much of the rest of the story they're going to keep intact. Gahh, I can't believe we have to wait another year for this.
PS- If you're reading this, please don't mention or hint at anything that happens after Rick kills Martinez. Thanks!

Gahh, I can't believe we have to wait another year for this.
PS- If you're reading this, please don't mention or hint at anything that happens after Rick kills Martinez. Thanks! For the most part, the first six episodes kinda just laid out what the first six books did. They basically have to go to the prison, I think, it's where some of the best storytelling is. And if they include the prison, they pretty much have to include Hershel's family so they can expand on certain parts of the story. Apparently Kirkman really likes writing new material though and wants people to treat the books and the show as two separate entities, so who knows.
ALSO, I JUST WANT CARL TO CAP THAT SON OF A BITCH SHANE. It HAS to happen soon, maybe in the second season opener or the second episode? second spoiler for those who have read further: I feel like them going to the CDC sort of ruins the whole DC plotline they're on now. Really, the only reason they went with Abraham, Eugene and Rosalita is because Eugene convinced them that he knew what caused it and that's why he needed to get there. In this version, though, they know that the CDC has no idea what it is and that the government is in shambles. Do you think we're going to ever see that in the series or if they're going to use something else?

If they do the prison storyline at all like it is in the books, they're going to have to include Herschel, since the deaths of his various family members serve as the catalysts for some big plot points.
And yeah, I'm putting big money on Shane not surviving the first episode of season 2.

Pictures from the second season are starting to get released. www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/25467There are a couple more out there but I can't get to them right now to post. (spoiler if you haven't read the comics) SHANE WHY ARE YOU STILL ALIVE AND RUNNING AROUND IN MOST OF THESE PICTURES. Ever since the "sneak peak" they had during the Breaking Bad premiere I've been in total Walking Dead mode. I'm a little behind on the comics so I'm gonna try and catch up, I just wish I could get them on my Kindle.
