I wouldn't call 90% of the bands in this thread emo.
Rival Schools being one of them.
However I'm going to listen to United by Fate now, so um...I'm glad I looked at this non emo thread.
I might follow that up with Algernon Cadwallader who is also not an emo band.
Infact I've always hated "emo" as a term to describe a style of music.
Um, bye.

Midwestern math rock sound better?
Emo as a style of music is interpreted differently by everyone. Where I might think that Cap'n Jazz or Algernon are "emo", someone else might not, where as someone might see Joan of Arc or Suis La Lune or whatever as "emo", but I most definitely don't.

It's really hard to classify Cap'n Jazz and Algernon as anything, really. They both have their "emo"moments, but Midwestern math rock kind of works haha.
But I guess if we consider Algernon Cadwallader and Cap'n Jazz as emo, then I'll add them to my list.
But, uh, this is what I've been listening to: Algernon Cadwallader Cap'n Jazz My Heart to Joy Native La Quiete 1994! Daïtro Envy Sleep Bellum Sonno Damezumari Texas is the Reason
I mean, some if not most of them are borderline screamo (or if you really want to go there, skramz), but they still have the same intense, emotional passion in their music as straight-up emo bands.

new favorite band if you're a fan of American Football, early Get Up Kids, Snowing, or really, just midwest emo in general, please check out this band. the LP is so fucking fantastic, great guitar, great vocals, great lyrics, great drumming, great everything. this may surpass American Football - S/T as my favorite emo record of all time. Gods Reflex - Scenes From a Motel Seduction www.mediafire.com/?hf6krtbc7aq6a6a

I'm listening to the American Football s/t for the first time forever. It's so dreary and autumny outside. Good afternoon.

I've been listening to a bunch of emo/screamo stuff lately but I've never given Algernon a proper listen. Listening to Some Kind of Cadwallader now and I like it.
