This may be a ridiculous question and I could be way off..
Would anyone here classify Coheed and Cambria's first album (Second Stage Turbine Blade) as emo? Or am I totally off?

Ehhhhhhhhhhh you can tell they listened to a good bit of emo but I don't think I'd quite call it emo, really.

What Sean said. That's a great album, though.

Like, there's some band that both Coheed and Quantice Never Crash listened to before either of them wrote their first albums, and I haven't found that band yet but there is some missing link because some of QNC's twinkly parts remind me of Coheed but that's probably not right.
Quantice Never Crashed ruled and you folks should listen to them.

I knew there was definite influence. I was just listening to it and.. ya, you can tell they pulled some things from the genre but it is different. And I'll be checking out that band.

Quantice Never Crashed ruled and you folks should listen to them. I SEE THIS BAND MENTIONED ALL THE TIME AND I REALLY DIDN'T THINK THEY GOT THAT POPULAR. I had a shirt from when they were called Howard Finster in middle school. They were really nice guys too.

Haha, I don't know how popular they got, really. The only people I know of who listened to them were me and Mike1-9. Where is that guy?

I actually thought they were like a strictly local band, so seeing people not from NJ/NY is weird to me.

They had a song on an AMP sampler once and I thought it ruled. I found the album at a local record shop and was far from disappointed. Wish they hadn't split so soon.

Saw Sunny Day Real Estate on Sunday and it was so much fun. I especially wanted to hear Grendel and 48 and they played both of those so I was happy.

I'm going to go ahead and say "Unfinished" by Mineral is the best emo song ever written. It's perfect in every way.

this thread needs to be bumped. i've gotten so much further into emo/screamo this year. listening to American Football - s/t right now. so wonderful. also been listening to a lot of Amanda Woodward, The Promise Ring, Antioch Arrow, and Raein while at work lately.
also, the newer wave of emo/screamo is seriously so fucking good. stuff like La Dispute, Touche Amore, Pianos Become The Teeth, Balance and Composure, My Heart To Joy, Tigers Jaw, empire! empire! (i was a lonely estate), Castevet, Grown Ups, Snowing, etc etc etc. i could go on for days about it.

i'm wary of this newer wave of screamo. out of the bands you listed that i've heard, i only really care for one, so i've yet to check out others.

I thought you didn't like Touche Dave?
Been listening to We Were Skeleton's new album a lot on drives! So good!

i never hated them, i just couldn't get into them that much, but they clicked with me not too long ago.
the Touche/La Dispute split is seriously soo fucking good, as is the Balance and Composure/Tigers Jaw split.

I should probably give Touche Amore another listen but I haven't cared for what I've heard from them.
I fully back My Heart To Joy, though. Everyone should check out Seasons In Verse.

Everyone needs to listen to them! So good. I'm gonna be living like 2 blocks from where they practice in Chicago, and I'm hoping I could make it out to a bunch of their local shows.

I should probably give Touche Amore another listen but I haven't cared for what I've heard from them. if they play near you, catch a show. that could make a believer out of you. does anyone listen to Gospel? really great prog/psych/screamo band. i know not too many of you are into prog or psychedelic shit but give it a listen anyway because no matter what term you decide fits, they just make fucking great music. check out The Moon is a Dead World, if you give a shit.

My Heart to Joy was ok. maybe the others will be better. this all just seems to take the intensity out of the sound, which is pretty much the whole fucking point for me. i'm bored so far. Gray Matter were most definitely the shit though

See Pianos Become the Teeth live. The intensity is there.

Listening to the La Dispute/Touche Amore split and it's the first time I've been impressed by both bands. Pretty good stuff.
