Eh, I think it's completely relevant to Harry Potter because these very issues are discussed and addressed to varying degrees (among other important social issues) by Rowling at various points throughout the 7 books. It would be hard, in my mind, to discuss Harry Potter without eventually having these types of discussions, because social equality and justice as such massive elements of the world created and explored within the books. No I agree that it's relevant, but it got to the point where it wasn't being referenced back to it and turned into a completely non-Harry Potter discussion. I'm also very excited for Mark to move onto HBP. If he's freaking out this much over the Order of the Phoenix, I can't imagine the next two books for him.

I love Mark doing predictions. The fails are hilarious and the correct guesses fascinating! I especially like this tidbit:
"The next Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher will not be FUCKING EVIL."
lulz

Yeah, that is a. . .correct but incorrect prediction at the same time, ahahaha.

So I'm pretty sure Mark knows that Snape kills Dumbledore because he's been on the internet, but he's freaking out that he doesn't know when or how. While Sirius' death was clearly the saddest death of all time, I feel like the way Dumbledore's happens just sucks so fucking much.

Like "...and then they died. Moving on." I hadn't even realized Lupin and Tonks had died until like 3 chapters after it happened.

In a way, I kind of enjoy the way Rowling deals with many of the deaths in the series, especially near the end. She's so blunt and matter of fact about it. There's nothing glamorous or fantastical about it. People fucking die. It sucks. Life continues.
Every single important death in these books is just brutal because they are so absurdly honest.

I've started reading Mark's "Mark Reads Harry Potter" deal again (I only made it three chapters into Sorcerer's Stone last time, now I'm on chapter 12 of Sorcerer's Stone) and I think his incorrect predictions are my favorite part. I kind of wish I hadn't seen the movies before I read the books, because I wonder if I would've guessed just as wrongly as he did.
Also, totally digging his analysis of Rowling's writing. It's helping me with ideas about my own story that I'm working on.
And he so quickly (Chapter 5 of Sorcerer's Stone) summed up what makes Harry Potter so great in one sentence. "Oh god this book just makes our world so incredibly terrible."

While Sirius' death was clearly the saddest death of all time, I feel like the way Dumbledore's happens just sucks so fucking much. Honestly, I can't imagine what knowing that but not knowing when, why, or how has to be the most frustrating thing ever. The crazy part is that, honestly, he won't know until the moment it happens. INSANE!@ Also, I just realized that Mark most likely has no idea that I'm Bobsparkington, which makes me feel dirty because it makes me feel like I'm hiding something. I'm not. You just can't have a simple, three letter name on Buzznet and when that happens I fall back on the name I used when doing crazy things to the computers in my computer lab in high school and when doing crazier things to our websites.

"Snape kills Dumbledore" I think was spoiled for me, and I had the book on the release date. I don't remember it affecting my reading, though; I sorta forget spoilers once I'm immersed in another given world.
I remember reading Deathly Hallows, and after Hedwig dies, thinking "FUCK! NO ONE IS SAFE!" I still think that was a useful plot device; pulling that bird all over the British countryside didn't make much sense, and the emotional impact really sets the tone for the rest of the book.

I want a Harry Potter party SO BADLY. Also I think I need more HP tattoos. 2 is not enough. I'm getting a lion tattoo soon! I've been trying to avoid explaining to people that I want to get it because of my (undying) obsession with Harry Potter. I feel so much better knowing that there are others with HP related tattoos out there, haha. Do you have any pictures of them?

Holy shit, those are awesome! Were they done by the same person? nah, the top one was actually done by a professional, the ones on my sides were done by my friend's boyfriend who'd only done two or three tattoos before that. Not too bad, but there are parts that are kinda shitty, but that's what I get for only paying $20. I think I might get a small Dark Mark behind my ear. I don't really like arm tattoos.

This might be a weird question, but what is the thing with Slytherin, Dark Mark, and Dark Arts tattoos? Like, most HP tattoos I see are Dark Marks, usually followed by things that are either Slytherin related or Dark Art related. In comparison to all other things HP related, those seem to dominate in the field of tattoos and I never really got why.
That's not a criticism of anyone or their work, by the way. I'm just curious about why people tend to lean in that direction when getting HP related work done.

I have the Dark Mark but I also have Fawkes on the same arm because I'm not trying to be a Death Eater for real. God how am I a grown up, look at that sentence.

I want an entire sleeve (or perhaps both sleeves) with a collage of various scenes from the books. Ideally, I'd pay one of the better fan-artists to create it. I either get that tattoo or nothing at all.

My brother has the Dark Mark. . .I think part of the reason he has it is, if you're a Harry Potter fan you know what it is, but if you don't, it looks more badass than dorky.

Haha yeah, like if someone knows what it is they're just as dorky as I am so whatever. I know I definitely want to get some sort of quote between Fawkes and the Dark Mark and I was thinking of "the world is not split into good people and Death Eaters" but it's so...literal? Especially since it's like "LOL GET IT BECAUSE FAWKES AND THE DARK MARK." I don't know. I wish I could think of a better Sirius line because I would like it to be something he said or about him.

Sirius quotes... hmmm...
"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
That's all I can think of.
