How come I've never made a thread about my favorite band ever ever ever? Oh well. I was inspired by the news that Carrie and Janet are starting a new band, and that in the same interview Carrie said that she fully expects they'll be making a new album "sometime in the next five years." It's not much, but it's the closest anyone's come to talking about a reunion. Thinking about even the possibility of hearing new S-K material is enough to make me all giddy. DISCUSS.

I fucking love these girls. Only got into them after I heard 'off with their heads' on one of those rock against bush comps.
(Not trying to rub it in again but) I'm just glad I had the chance to see them live, even if it was at a shitty festival... 4 years later and i'm still kicking myself for not making it to their headlining show.
Thats pretty cool, i'm looking forward to hearing what it'll sound like if it ever even happens.

Only got into them after I heard 'off with their heads' on one of those rock against bush comps. Same here, actually. I heard that and liked it, but then I forgot about them for a while. Then I started reading reviews of The Woods when it came out and figured I should check out more of their stuff. Man, I still remember the feeling of getting my head blown off by that album. As soon as "The Fox" ended, I just kind of sat there thinking "WOW. What the fuck was that?!?" On a related note, the new Quasi album is really fucking good. Maybe their best yet. I saw that they played in Tucson last week and was mad. Why couldn't they have played when I lived there? I COULD HAVE MET JANET Kels, you should definitely pick up some more of their stuff, especially Dig Me Out and All Hands On the Bad One.

somebody came into the record store today, brought a sleater-kinney cd up to the counter and asked what it sounded like. i gave him a rough description, recommended it, and mentioned that it was an all-female group, which led him to ask, "Like Tegan and Sara?" sigh.

What album was it? If it was The Woods, you totally should have said yes. The look on his face when he actually listened to it would have been priceless.

I have a mix CD that's almost entirely Sleater-Kinney and I have no idea what any of the songs are called. I just know that I love every song on it, yet haven't taken the time to grab an actual record. First album to be recommend to me I'll buy.
GO!

All Hands On the Bad One or One Beat. Just close your eyes and pick one, you can't go wrong either way.

i dunno how i never realized that this band didn't have a bassist. i'm not real familiar with them but i like everything i've heard.
do they have many songs that have screaming, like "Heart Attack"? i love that.

I had a friend who flat-out didn't believe they didn't have a bass player. Corin plays a baritone guitar, and Carrie tunes down like 3 1/2 steps, so that's why it still sounds like they do sometimes.
The screaming is only really on their first two records. If you like that, you might want to check out Excuse 17 (Carrie's first band) and Heavens To Betsy (Corin's first band). "Terrorist" by Heavens To Betsy has some of the most terrifying vocals I've ever heard in a riot grrl band.

I'm going to give this band another try tonight, it's just stupid and nonsensical that I can't get into them.

I've spent way too much money building my collection through eBay. Stuff I've bought/won in the last week:
Self-titled debut (10") Get Up (7" and CD single) Jumpers (7" and CD single) A Quarter To Three (import CD single) One Beat promo CD single (has "Off With Your Head" and "Lions and Tigers") Entertain (CD single) You Ain't It! (7")
I'm also watching an auction of the Entertain 7" and one for the You're No Rock and Roll Fun 7" ends in like 5 minutes.

RESURRECTED BECAUSE THEY ARE
Got my ticket for Boston in February and pre-ordered the deluxe vinyl of the new album. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the happiest I've been in months. And the box set is so fucking gorgeous and awesome.

I didn't know tickets went on sale two days ago and both shows sold out in less than two minutes. Oh well, stoked for the new album.

Again, I'm not a huge fan like you, I was just stoked to see them live. Sold out. Set up a second DC show, sold that out too. Super super super fast. I never had a prayer.

Listening to the new album right now. It's challenging, sounds nothing like their previous albums, and it's completely fucking awesome.

fuck this new one rules. got a ticket off stubhub for 10 bucks more than face value. bought deluxe vinyl today. S-K is one of the only bands i will drop any amount of money on.
nick, i think it sounds kind of like a combo of dig me out and the woods. carrie's playing is really angular and awesome.

I think The Woods tops all, but Dig Me Out probably represents their "sound" better and would also be a safe bet. All are good though.
